SHORTAGE OF SWEED TURNIP
SEED 1
seed Branch, Ottawa.
S w eed turnip growers are urged
this spring to endeavour to secure
and transplant a few sound toots
to 'produce seed for themselves and
their neighbors. Owing to the ab -
•normal conditions now prevailing
there will likely be very littie
Swede seed for planting in • the,
Spring of 1918 unless our Canadian•,
swede .turnip growers make 'pro-
visioins for their own supplies gby
growing the seed .themselves. Can-
adian supplies of swede and' Other
field root and garden seeds form-
erly came from Europe but this
Source is now practically cut off:
The prospects for home grown.
seed have been, reduced by the
present price of swede turnips
for food purposes, as it wouidnow;
(sake nearly two hundred dollars;
worth of full grown swede tprnips•
to transplant an acre for need pair i
poses. This factor has had :the
•u'nfortunate effect of reducing the
area in the eastern provinces that
would otherwise have been planted
for the production of swede seeds,

This, our new aerial story, is one of the very best written ssifi
the present war. The first instalment will appear in an ems'
issue. You'll like Tommy ; it is a strong, soul -stirring tale of the
great world war that everyone in the family will enjoy. The harp
is a Lancastershire lad. He didn't want to go to war—not at first
"Let 'em as wants to fight the Germans fight 'em" said Tommy.
Then one day he heard the cry of suffering Belgium; he heard
the call of his own motherland he gave up the best job he ever
had and enlisted. He went to France ; he fought a good fight—
against himself as well as the enemy ; he won the D.C.M. and—
the ;best girl in the world. A splendid 'story splendidly told,
Watch for the first instalment.
