DIES FROM BURNS RECEIVED
SiIREtleal FIRE IN HER ROOM
As the result of burns recei-ed,
when her cloches caugnc fire irom,
the coals of a stove, to which she
was ;attending, Miss Lola laylor,
aged 20, of Exeter, died in St.
Joseph's •Hospital, London last
Thursday,
She was a student at the West-
ervelt Business College at London
and with several other girls did
light houaekeep•ing at 36 Victoria
street.
$While stirring the fire Saturday,
:night, clad only in her, night-
clothes and a kimiona, she knock-
ed several of the coals, from the
stove to the clarpet. She atteme
pted to save the carpet by thrust-
ing the coals on the iron base-
board under the 'stove, and while
so doing her flimsy garments we-
re ignited.
The, blazed up instantly burn-
ing almost all the 'ellothes
her body before the flames
smothered with a quilt by
other young woman.
Dr, 3. I, Ferguson was summoned
,and the girl was rup(hed to. St
Joseph's Hospital. It was not .
thought at first that the burns,
would result fatally, but the sev-
ere shock is ;thought to have been,
largely responsible for her death.
She wae a daughter 01 ,J W.
Taylor of Exeter and the remains
wefe forwarded to that town and
the funeral was held on Saturday
last.

SOME COLLECTION BOX
The latest American church de-
vice for "raising the wind" is,
'what a religious paper describes
as "some collection box." The
inventor hails from Oklahoma. If
a memhbes of the congregation
drops in a twenty-five ' ,Cent
,piece or a coin of larger value,
there is silence. If it is a ten
cent piece a bell tingle a five-
cent piece sounds a whistle, and
a cent fires a blank cartridge. If
anyone pretends to be asleep
when the box rprasses, it awakens
him with a watehman'a rattle,
and a kodak takes his portrait,
