Lieut. C. W. Cavers, former editor
of The Toronto Sunday World, now
Assistant -Adjutant of the 104th Bat-
talion, Sussex, N.B., Col. G. X. Fow-
ler, officer commanding, is in Toron-
to on •furlough, and is typical of the
spirit which prevades the Canadian
forces.
Lieut. Cavern was in newspaper
work at Montreal when the war
broke out, and enlisted with one of
the regiments there as a private.. His
work in the orderly room. at Val
-
carter Camp attracted attention, and
when new regiments were formed be
was despatched to several places in
:astern Canada to put orderly rooms
in shape. Col. Folwler was one of
the first to indicate his appreciation
of the service rendered, and offered
the former Toronto newspaperman a
commission. He took a course of
training at Halifax Military College,
and passed with high standing.

Major Astor, owner of an estate at
Cliveden, where the Canadian Red
Cross Hospital is situated, is erect-
ing a workshop where permanently
disabled patients may learn wood-
working prior to being discharged to
civil life. Cigarette -making will also
shortly form an industry for Clive -
den men who have lost an arm, They
will be able to do this with the aid
of machinery. The new enterprise
will start in a few weeks, and is ex-
pected almost to pay its own ex-
penses from the start. Wages will
be paid to the workers but the money
so earned will be withheld until the
man is discharged from the army,
thus providing him a small capital
with which to re-enter civil life. This
new addition to the usefulness of the
hospital is undertaken under Vie
auspices of the Lord Roberts Meraa-
oriel Workshops Scheme. . -

A Reactionary Storni Period is cen-
tral on the 18th, 14th and 150, i ter
ing this period expect a very marked
and sudden rise of temperature, pass
ing as a rapid waren wave from west
to east, These conditions will culmin-
ate on and touching Saturday the 16th,
in a very low barometer, unseasonable
wairath, and wicked storms, of wind,
rain, thun.ler and hail. All approach
ing storm clouds, and the general con-
ditions of humidity and wind -current,
should be closely scanned, as dangeront•
tornadic storms will be quite probable
at this tine. Great hail storms in
many localities will be reported within
forty-eight hours of noon on the 16th
Watch for the brassy, copperish glow
in the clouds, with purple, blackish
brows and trimmings, and when these
indications become manifest, you had
better prepare for a terrific bombard-
ment of hail; It will be wise to ant-
icipate tremendous downpours of Venus
ruins at this and other April storm
periods. The. Easter full Moon is on
the 17th, and this fact promises pro
longed disturbances, with change to
blighting, gold gales, and severe squalls
of late snow, following quickly on the
western rim of . high temperature,
thunder, rain and hail. The last de-
terminecl efforts of Boreas to prolong
his dominion of winter will, most like-
ly, be pub forth, during the two storm
periods between the 12th ' and 'A2nd,

Consider Purity in Paint
in Preference to Price.
You wouldn't pay the regular price for Sugar that
