By order of the council, from now
on, any person who allows a non -
subscriber to use his or her telephone,
will be charged ten cents for the mes-
sage. The practice of allowing per-
sons to use telephones, who are not
subscribers, is becoming too prevelant
and this plan is being adopted to pot
a stop to it. - The charges will be
added to tbe taxes of the subscriber
upon, whose phone the message is
allowed.
OUR CORNER
Both political parties at Ottawa
have agreed to extend the terni of the
present parliament to October, 1917.
The motive which influenced the I
Government to propose and tbe oppos-
ition to accept the extension was that
an election during the war was to be
avoided and to centre all efforts to en-
list men and produce munitions, that
victory may be gained,
Our subscription list has Leen cor-
rected to Feb 16th. We des"re to ex-
press our sincere thanks to he sub-
scribers who have renewed f r 1916.
Many have done so, and itis a
encouragement to the publishars of a
weekly paper when the renewals are
made promptly. We are very desirous
of inalcing.our mailing list a paid-up
one, and would ask those who have
not renewed to help us by doing so at
an early date. One dollar is not a
large amount to be owing by one per-
son, but when it runs into hundreds it
means something to the newspaper
men.

Amusement That Is Worth
While
Christian Herald.
The amusement problem is one of
the toughest that confront young peo-
ple. For generation after generation
they have been adyised and taught and
warned and scolded with all sorts of
results. Many young people hays
flown in the face of advice and warning
and have come to grief and wreck many
have taken the advice, but instead of
being glad and triumphant about it
have been rebellious and troubled;
many have become confused, not real-
ly knowing what they should do; others,
have really come to a satisfactory pian
and have lived happily, without com-
promise,'without condemnation.
Both the world and the ebureh have
made definite progress in understand-
ing young people during the last hun-
dred years or so, Some of the good
people of the old days thought it waw
wrong for young people to have any
fun at all. But the best studies of
huinan'naturo show that it is better
for a man never to lose his capacity
for play. A young life without fun is
terrible. An old life without fun is
deplorable.
Now what kinds of fun are worth
while?
The. best standards of wholesome
amusement are those set by the Young
Men's and the Young Women's Chris-
tian Associations, They have made
ainusernent a science. Their physical
directory itind game leaders know how
to provide and direct the kind of am-
usement that sends young people bink
to work with clear head, refreshed
belles, and, b ,st of all, untroubled
consciences,
