FARM SOLD Mr Louis Jeffrey, who lives a short distance south of St Joseph, has sold his farm to Mr John Laporte, of near Drysdale, one of the prosperous and' progressive farmers of the Bauble Line. The farm contains about one hundred acres of land and the con- sideration is $3150. Possession, will be given on March 16th, 1916. LESS LICKING A three -cent stamp, or its equival- ent, may be adopted to obviate the in- convenience remitting from affixing a war stamp on letters in addition to the regnlar postage. Postmaster -General Casgrain stated that to simplify mat- ters he may adopt the French custom of stamping a "surcharge" on the two - cent stamp, giving it a three -cent value and obviating the necessity of putting on two separate stamps. With such a method it would be easier to revert to the two -cent stamp when the war is over, SURPLUS FIRST YEAR NO 21 '''' 4 itzP>Ffitat404a4405,4figel44110414.100.143•41.4 4 44 44 44 4 `; a 1 4. if 4. I • Chritrn;${ ,a °ode • It is just a year since hydro electric was turned on in Plattsville and dur- ing that time the system has given every satisfaction. There are now in the neighborhood of a hundred power and light meters in town and at the close of the first year the village will hays oyer $200 of a surplus after paying all expenses. The above is taken from the Echo, Plattsville, Ont., of last week. As will be noticed the village of Platsville with a population of only about 400 has a surplus on hand. of $200 after ly et,year''s operation .of hydro. Pi' tcsville can make hydro pay, surely Zurich with two hnndred more population can do the same. DUNLOP, Manager lionatisoggisawir&v:iasit . Christmas Decorations Artificial light has become almost a necessity for decorative purposes, and consequently its use has been largely extended, This is especially so at Christmas festivities. In business houses the display of holiday goods is enhanced by the abundant use of ele- ctric` light and other illumination. There is, however, danger in this, and, unless precautions are taken, serious fires may result. Great care should be taken that none of the decorative material' comes in contact with the lights. Usually the decorations are very inflammable; when in close con- tact with even an electric light bulb they quickly become charred and start ablaze- Paper shades on lights, can- dles on Christmas trees, or in so•called Japanese lanterns have started many serious fires. Especially at public entertainments such as church festivals, great care should be taken, Fire extinguishers should be at hand in case of necessity. Where lighted candles are used on Christrnas trees, the responsibility for seeing that the lives of those present are protected and every precaution taken for the safety of lits and proper- ty, should be definitely assigned.
