day on business in connection with
the voters' lists.

The members of the Hensall ban d
were dressed in their khaki uniforms
last Thursday. The suits look well.
Miss Dora Kraft, who has been
visiting friends here for a few weeks
has returned to her home in Dash-
wood.
Mr George Schoeilig, of Detroit, a
former resident of this section, was
renewing old a3quaintances here for a
few days last week,

loo, where they are attending the sem-
inary conducted in connection with

Mr and Mrs Charles Hey, of Bad Axe
Mich., and Mrs Zinn, of Cavalier, N
D., were guests at the home of Mr
J F Rickbeil last Thursday evening.
All were former residents of tis
section and many interesting reminis-
canes were recalled.
Word was received here on Wednes-
day of last week of the death of Mrs
Gtis Appeman of Bartlett, N D, young-
est daughter of Mr and Mrs Ernst
Gies, of this village. The news of
her death came as a great shock to the
parents as no particulars of her ill-
ness had been received. She had
reached the age of 42 years and three
months, and leaves her husband and
a number of small children to mourn
hes loss,

Messrs T C Graham, of Niagara
Falls,' N. Y., and Wm Marlton, of
Goderieb, were visitors in the yillage
on Tuesday.
Mr and Ivlrs C F Hey returned to
their home in Bad Axe, Mich, on
Friday, after a pleasant visit with
friends here.
E Swartz, proprietor of the
Queen's Hotel, Wingham, died on
Saturday, after a long illness. He
was well known throughout the county
as a horseman, owning Hal H and
Darkey Hal, with which he won many
.prizes.
- While returning home from visiting
friends near Crediton a few evenings
ago, Mr Ed Beaver had the misfort-
une to break the back axle of his auto.
The accident happened on' the level
road and he was going slowly at the
time ce /ore onions damage might
have resulted.
There will probably be a big demand
for hay sats and other fodder in Can-
ada this fall. The British War Office,
it is understood, is contemplating the
purchase of large qualities of the above.
The supplies are required for the Brit-
ish expeditionary forces and it is un-
derstood an expert buyer will be sent
out to represent the War Office and
confer with the government as to the
best method of making the purchase
referred to,
Owing to the Teachers Convention
of West Huron, which will convene on
October 14th and 15th, the Fowl sup-
per of the Evangelical church will be
held on Tuesday Oct 19th. A fine
programme will be rendered, consist-
ing of addresses, choruses, readings,
junior exercises etc, Everybody
Come—This will be the event of the
season. Supper will be served from
5.30 to D.80 o'clock. Admission
Adults 85 cents Children 20 cents.
Dan McEwen, of London, the most
popular trainer and driver of fast
horses in this eonntry, who made
himself and the great "Eel” famous
allover the world a few years ago by
defeating all the best horses on the
turf, acted as one of the judges at the
racesheld here last week at our fair.
It is needless to say he gave the best
of satisfaction as he understands the
racing rules thoroughly. His many
friends around here were glad to see
him. Come again Dan.
