The war tax of one cent on letters
and post cards is working smoothly
reports the Post -office department at
Ottawa. Few letters have been sent
to the dead -letter office on account of
failure to affix the war stamps. Letters
la,cking sufficient postage will not he
sent collect unless bearing the wqr
stamp. When the envelope contains
the sender's address it Will be returned
to him and. otherwise it will be
sent to the dead -letter office and re-
turned therefrom after being opened.
Thomas Hansdsley, who enlisted
at Clinton and went to Valcartier with
the first contingent, after which he
trained ab Salisbury Plains and later
was sent across to France with the
first Canadians who landed there, is
visiting at the home of Mr Henry
Rau, near Drysdale, for a few weeks,
He had to return :owing to physical
inability, Mr Ranapley was in the
trenches at La Lasses in Prance fpr
two weeks, and the soldier figk

celebrated at the home of Mr and 'Mrs
C Either, of this village, on Tuesday
morning, when their eldest danghter,
Miss Dora Edna, was united in mar-
riage to Mr Arthur G Eilighoffer, by
Jtov G b' Brown, pastor of the Evan-
gelical church. The ,ceremony was

the parlor, the bride being given away
by her father. The groom's gift to
thebride was a cheque. The bride
was becomingly dressed in a navy
blue travelling snit, military style,

ony a dainty wedding breakfast was
served. The bride and groom left on
