:HYDRO DELEGATION
A. monster deputation from ,over•
whole Ontario waited on Premier
Hearst and the Cabinet at the Parliam-
ent buildings, Toronto, last Friday, to
emphasize the fact that the people of
Ontario want a system .of publicly -
owned electric radials, diven by hy-
dro power, .and to ask a subsidy' of.
$3,500 a mile from the Government.
Hon Mr Hearst in his reply to the
other speakers stated that ' he was
heartily in sympathy with the sins of
the delegation and would give the mats
ter his own personal consideration. He
pointed out, however, that though the
Govornmen tmight be fully prepared
to do everything within reason, to ad-
vance a project looking towards the
public good, thepresentcrisis in the
world's history would necessarily affect.
the government's action at the present
time.

NEW GAME LAWS
Toronto, March 24. -Some of the
most radical regulations of years wets)
passed by the fish and game commit-
tee of the Legislature at a meeting on
March 24th. Hereafter an open sea-
son will obtain for all small birds,
quail, partridge, grouse, pheasants, ate.,
and the dates will be Octaber 15 to
November 15. Under this will be in-
cluded woodcocks, gray squirrel and
hares,
- It was decided to give two weeks at
Christmas time for the shooting of cot-
tontail. rabbits, .This was. urged on
the ground of sport for the country
boy
It is likely that action will be taken
towards licensing guns in Ontario.
Strong representations are being made
to enforce Italians and foreigners to
require licenses because of their dan-
gerous tempers and tendency to slay
song birds.
A. bag limit of 25 for the season is
set on quail and not more than six per
day can be taken. A •new zone line
for northern and southern districts was
made and these will run across the
Western peninsula from Hamilton to
Sarnia.
To increase provincial reVentle and
guard farrecl game the chairman pro-
posed a trapper's license to be required
by all except farmers and farmers sons.
This was decided upon and set at $2.00
for the season.
Some members advocated a very
close season for muskrat and claimed
local conditions warranted protection,
while others sought wider privileges.
The tact that sportsmen entering a
field shoot down practically everything
in sight influenced the committee to
make a uniform,j »en season,
