Zurich Agricultural Society r
The annual meeting of the Zuiicl
Agricultural Society was held in the
Town Hall here on Wednesday after-
noon. The finances of the Society
are in a satisfactory condition, a balan-
ce of $84.93 remaining in the treasur-
er's hands. Following is the result of
the election of officers for the year

The first Bible lecture given Ander
the auspices of the Mens M. Society of
theL' utheran Church by Rev. W, C.
l&ialer, the pastor, was held on Tuesday
evening and was fairly well attended.
Phe services were very instructive and
'interesting and everybody, who post,
sibly can do so, should attend, as a
knowledge of the Bible is a very neces-
sary thing in these clays of numer:zu.s
false teachings. The next service. will
be held on Tuesday, Jan. 26th, at;8 P.
M.
LATE MENNO SURERUS,
Another of the old settlers of this
cormmnnits; has passed away. Saturday

Surerus, aged a' Tittle' more than 611
years, and generally known through-
out central and western Pembina
county, died very suddenly at his here
in this city from heart trouble. 'He
had been up and about the clay previ-
ously and although indisposed and.in
bed at the time, he was not thought
to lie in any serious condition of ill
health. However, at the time named
the brittle cord of life suddenlp snapped
and his spirit soared away to the great
Beyond.
Monne Surerus was born in Zurich
Huron county, Ontario, November 12,
1853, where the early part of his life
was spent. In 1880 he was married to
Jane Geiger, who survives hind, and
five years later he carie to North Da-
kota, HTS flrstinCated in Cavalier co-
unty, where he resided until 1801,
when himself and family moved to
Cavalier. Most of the time since then
he has lived upon a farm in this vicini-

was the father of seven children, six of

brothers and one sister—Benjamin and
Joseph of Zurich Ontario; William of

Center Sask.
The deceased was a member of the
Evangelical church of this city, a Mas-
ter Mason in good sta tiling, being
member of Tongue River Lodge A. F tC
A. M of Cavalier.
The funeral services were
held in the City Hall, on Jan, 14th
