this to be wondered at, for the signifi-
cance of the great, event at Bethlehem
of Judea. is for ever associated with
the thought of peace—peace among
nations, peace among factions. peace
among individuals. With 'this thought
of peace comes the wish to do some-
thing worth while, to make life a little
more of service and less of self., a
little more • filled with actions that
may bring hope and encouragement
to those who may need a' helping hand
along the way. We turn this way and
that at the beginning of the New Year,
wondering what good resolution we
,may plan to carry out. Making New
Year resolutions is not a foolish pro-
cedure, as cynics will tell you. It is
a healthy omen, an indication that
there are many things we can. do that
in the past years we have left uCi -
done. I em going to offer a sugges-
tion right here to those who want to
he of some assistance to their fellows
It is a good suggestion and is heauti
fully expressed in these words by
David Starr Jordan: "There There is nothing

be truly wise, study children. fie call
dress the sore, bandage the wound
ine.prison the criminal, heal the sick
and bury the dead, but there is always
a chance that we can save the child.
If the great army of philanthropists
ever exterminate sin and pesti:enee,
ever work out the race's Salvation, it -
will be because a Iittie child has led
them."
In this regard do you know that
there were• 72 511 babies born last
year in Ontario? Do you know that
7,804 babies under one year of age
died last year in Ontario?
Think over these figures. They may
give you a suggestion for a New
Year resolution • that can be made
worth while.

Why Wolf Cub Packs?
In .1014, the Chief Scout, finding that
171,411Y boys under twelve years of age
were desirous' of becoming Scouts but
were prohibited from doing so because
of their lack of years, organized the
Wolf Cub Packs for boys from 8 to
12 years, Since that time the move-
ment has grown so that now there are
Wolf Cube all over the world. The
aims of the junior organizationare
identical to the aims of the Boy
Scouts Association, the only difference
being the age of the bays. The meth-
od of training is similar to that em-
ployed in the Scout Troops, namely,
the utmost possible responsibility be-
ing placed upon the boys themselves;
thus developing the ability to control
others and the true spirit of leader-
ship which is perhaps titan's mast
vital need in the world of to -day. The
training for manhood through the
medium of the Boy Scout Movement be-
gins early in life and lasts till that
manhood dies.
Scout at Armq Parley.
While attending the Scout. Leaders
Conference at Buffalo recently, Mr.
Anders, the local secretary for the
Hamilton Association, learned some.
thing that will be of great interest to
Scouts. When Secretary of State
Hughes opened the Disarmament Con-
ference at Washington, and made the'
appeal for all the nations to scrap por-
tions of their navies, the only boy that
heard him was a Boy Scout. This
Scout was on duty outside the . con-
ference room, and one of the British
delegates, for whom the boy had done
11 "good turn," insisted that the boy
accompany him to the conference
room. In spite of quite an aniottnt of
opposition, the delegate stuck to his
request, officialdom gave way and the
boy was admitted.

Winter is a dangerous season for the

"'hose Who Dance
Must Pay The Fiddler"
There's a settlement in profit or loss, for
nearly every indulgence.
Sometimes the pay day is long deferred, and
in that case the settlement may bear compound
interest.
Often a payment in ill health is required for
the dance had with tea or coffee during earlier
years. Sometimes the collection comes in sleep-
lessness, sometimes in headaches, sometimes in
high blood pressure, or in nervous indigestion—
sometimes in all these penalties.
Nerves won't always stand the whipping of
tea and coffee's drug, caffeine.
If you've been dancing to tea or coffees fid-
dling, why keep on till payment time comes? If
you're beginning to pay, now, why not cancel the
contract?
There's an easy and pleasant way to avoid
tea and coffee's penalties, as thousands have found
who have changed to Postural. It is a delight`
with any meal—rich, comforting and satisfying
—and it never harms. Even the little children
can have a breakfast cup of Posturn, With no fear
for what may happen to sensitive nerves.
Instead of paying penalties for your meal.
time drink, let it pay benefits to you, by giving
natural health a full chance—and begin the new
arrangement today. Any grocer will sell you, or
any good restaurant will serve you Posture.
Postuin comes in two forms, Instant Postum (in tins)

Origin of Horse -Power.
• When steam replaced horses for
hoisting and pumping in British mines,
the need arose of stating how many
horses were replaced by an engine.
Experiments showed that a powerful
dray -horse could lift 330 pounds out of
a nine shaft at a rate of 100 feet per
minute. Hence the unit known as a
"horse -power."
