P, for South Huron was the first speaker and spoke very ably on the good Legislature of the Drury Government. Mr. Black then took the platform, followed ler Mr. Scott. The Friday evening meeting was held by S. J. Merner the past member and the pres- ent candidate for the N. L. Con- servative party. Mr. Merner gave a ;rery able reply to several ch- arges made ,agaihst the governm- ent, etc. He was followed by the Hon. ex -minister of the Prov- incial Hearst Government, and •discussed the live subjects of the day. At both meetings good ate tention and order prevailed, dos- ing with the National Anthem. Ile had not been enjoying good health. of late and went to Toron- to last week where he underwent an operation, but it did not prove successful and he passed away on Saturday as above stated. Mr. Esler has been a life long resid- ent of Stanley having lived on the Goshen Line till a few years ago when he retired from farming and he and his wife moved to Varna. Mrs. Ester died about two years aga. Deceased had reach- ed the age of 78 years, he was a staunch and consistent member(); the Presbyterian church and lea- ves to mourn his loss two sons, John and Allan in the West and three daeghters, Mrs, Alex.
