Dr. Sarah .Detweiler, of Kitchen-
er, who is the provincial, Domin-
ion and World Superintendent of
the Traveler's Aid department of
the W. C. T. iJ , gave a splendid
'address 'on Sunday afternoon of
the World's W.C.T.U. convention,
which was held at London ,Eng., to
the members of, the local union. In
the evening she addressed a large
audience in the Evangelical church
her subject being the Work o ,the
Traveller's Aid.
There passed away on Monday
morning, Dec, 6th, at the home of
Henry Flaxboard,'at the east
end of the village, Mr. Charles
Waiper, at the age of 51 years, 8
months and 9 days. Deceased,
was enjoying his usual good health
until a few days previous to his
death which was caused by erysip-
elas. He was born in Hay Town-
ship and lived here all his life, and
was known to be of a very quiet
peaceable disposition, and had
many ,friends. The funeral, 'was
hell privately on. Wednesday, con-
ducted by Rev. Rembe, interment
being made in the Lutheran cern-
etery. ( •.
It is estimated that. nearly a
quarter of a million dollars' worth
of German toys was shipped to
Canada during November for the
Christmas trade, which equals the
total amount shipped from Eng-
land to Canada from January. to
October. German toys are flood-
ing the British markect to such an
extent that the British are 'making
corpleints that the industry is
seriously crippled, and the Over-
seas Department of Foreign'} Tr-
ade reports that the toy import
houses are already stocked with
German goods, ar(d that it is too
late to take steps to restrict the
trade. The department estim-
ates that 75 per cent. of the toys
on the Br t:sh market at Christmas
w,11 be German; -made, and will cost'
,about half as much as the British-
