U. held its monthly meeting last •week, on Wednesday evening. Mrs. N. Dahms led the devotional part. The educational part consisted of the harmfulness of tobacco and cigarettes. This was taken ,by the Misses Olive O'- Brien and Pearl Wurtz, i>Ir. Trefle Laporte ,son' of Mr. Charles Laporte, Sauble Line Stanley, underwent a serious op- eration for appendicitis last week. They new wheat will' begin to move' a- broad in January. ANNIVERSARY 'SERVICES Off Dashwood Evan. Much (Intended for last week.y An event of unusual interest oc- curred for the Dashwood Evang- gelical congregation, when the 26th anniversary of the erection of the present commodious church was celebrated on the 14th. Bishop S. P. Spreng, of NNaperville+, Ills. was the pseaker in; this occasion. On Saturday .evening he deliver- ed one of his interesting and high- ly instructive lectures which won the hearts of the people' for him and opened the way for him for the Sunday services. Regardless of the stiff northern, the attend - its the forenoon was good. Alarge audience greeted the Bishop in the evenin ;. • At the close of this service the spieaker appealed to the young people especially, for "Life Service Enlistment." While none respo;rded, at thi stime, hi:eh was possibly due to the fact that several had done so during an ap- peal made at the annual Y. P. A. Convention held tin September at Dashwood. The Holy Spirit, doubtless, mov- ed deep (lasting convictions upon the hearts of the young people. During the afternoon, the pas- tor read is historical sketch of the congregat:on, which appeared verb interesting to the younger part of the congregartion and 'stimula'ted a feeling of thankfulness in the hearts of the older members. The lay -brethern, J. K. Goetz and Jacob Kellerman apake of the ear- ly days when yet the congregat- ion was small and the people lerg- ely poor. Reference was' made to the little old church, the mighty revivals, the Gohly servants of God who labored in faith nad un- der many privations and mockery by Worldly 'minded men. An occasion of this kind is stare to 'be fruitful -of blessed results. It is the plan of the congregation to held services of this kind annually. The 'congregation has during the past year, greatly improved the.. parsonage at considerable ex- penditure, ' It is now a modern dwelling in -every way. The provements consist of a wicl•e and massive verandah, a sun -room, a bath -room with modern fixtures 1 a '.i'reWe.
