Crop production has not fallen of. Pra- ctically all of our lands aree in cu:-: tivatien or .pasturage, and there is I still plenty of food to go the round not any big surplus as in thee pastl but enough and more than enough! of many things. It this were not so fanners -would have to sell cat- tle and, hogs at a loss. But Id not believer that there is a large surplus of other farm products. We should have an extra supply. Something should be saved during the fat years to tide us over the lean ones. That is not being done noer, but each year might 'bring an increased production if the influx to -the city were checked This can be done in one way only, and that is to pay the farm- ev liar price for his products. Parmin .g is the hardest work there is, and living conditions on farms are usually less comfortnlee than in cities. IT the people whe do the Work and endure the her god-!- ships are ieot -entitled to lead wagee, who are? Farming as a business is not going to the (lop as some people think. Neithee is it flourishing a sit should. Ther' are several reason sfor this; the low priee of farm products, high- priced labor, -speculation in fooa- stuffs, lack ot term organizetion, and prohibitive freight rates, among others. --E.
