'P.
Dear Mr. Editor;—
After repeated requests on
tk part of several citizens I am
directing this communication to
you What I wish to say may be
rather cauotic terms, but as it ex-
t I saes the sentiment of a levee
riumber of ratepayers in tee vil-
lage of Zurich, we shall cons :ler it
a favor if you publish this in your
columns.,
The Third of Tune was only ore
of the many dusty days we have
had during the last four weeks.
Hundreds were almost choked eni
blinded with dust. .As was quite.
usual the Police Trustees were re-
peatedly "cussed" for, their sins of
omission not having the streets
sprinkled.)
Bad as it was, it is only na
inconvenience and may be forgot-
ten after the autumn house-clean-
ing, but there is something much
more serious, the fire protection
of the village, the neglect of wh-
ich is morally criminal on the part
of those who are responsible.Dry
as has been the weather, during
the past weeks, let a fire break
out in such inflammable structu-
res as the lfou rmill, ,the wagon 4.
shop, or any other frame build- 3.•
ing on the same street and with
• gale blowing from the west the 3,
.e hole business section would be
reduced to ruin and ashes within 3,
the space of a few hours. Be-' e-

their residences and their famil-
ies consumed in the "fiery furnace'
on this side of life's "Great Div-
ide" as they happen to live out-

danger, but the curses and the
odium that would be heaped up
for them . would, undoubtedly, last
until that time.
In conclusion, Mr. Editor, I am
not trying to put the blame of
negligence altogether, on the shoe
uiders of a few who, just now,
are most responsible. Perhaps,
they are hampered by circumete
ances or at least, feel that way.
Too often, it is the custom of the 4.
public to shift unrernunerative re-
aponsibilities onto the most pat -

quate prol ction. Let'e take
