On Tuesday the members of the Lutheran church met at the old graveyard adjoining the public school pre.mihee, and with shovels. axes, hoes and other implemeets attacked the brush, undergrowth and small. trees. The workers were numerous and towards noon much of the wilderness had been laid low. When everything had been cleared away, horses and plows helped to turn over the ground and in time it is proposed to level it and keep it in grass. The work done so far has made a de- cided improvement in the appear- ance of•that part of our village. JOHN HENRY SCHNELL PASSES( In the passing of John Henry Schnell another of Hay Town- ship's old residents are. missed. Ile was born in Schee ckb .ch, Germany, and came to New Hamburg, Ont. when a boy, after residing there for sever. years came to Hay Town ship and settled on Lot 08 con. 14, until 13 years ago when he inc ed to Zurich where he resided to the time of his death which was caus- ed by internal trouble; Dee - eased had been ailing for several months, and at times little hope was entertained for his ''eco cry, and he passed peacefully to sleep on Wednesday morning, March 24, at the age of 75 years, 6 months and 10 days, He was twice mar- ried his first wife pre -deceased him 25 years ago. With this un- ion they were blessed with ten chiidren, of which six still survive. They are as follows; David of Ab- erdeen, Sask; Albert of Calgary, Alt; Annie, of Aberdeen, Sask; Mrs, A C Kalbfleisch of Detroit, Mich ; Mrs. Mack of Harte, Man and Per dinand of Mautia, Man. Also his sorrowing widow he leaves to. mourn his loss. The late M. Schnell was well- known in Hay Township, having been a member of the Hay Connell many years ago, and also acted as tax collector for several years, whereby he made friends with all who, came in contact with him, with his pleasant gentlemanly disposit- ion.
