Man isn't even handsome, and as

We gather x grain of comfort on

Iing that Mark Twain was a humorist,
and that in pointing out the defects
and failings of mankind, he does not
in his serious moments overlook the
fact that in comparison with the ani-

he gets then, they must be pulled out

he can depend upon until the dentist
makes one. Man starts in' as a child
and lives on diseases to the end, as a

his life continues to be threatened at
every turn by colds, coughs, asthma,
bronchitis, quinsy, consumption, yel-

.buncles, pneumonia, softening of the
brain, and a thousand other maladies he is painted.
SPRING WEATHER
HARD ON BABY
The Canadian Spring weather—one
day mild and bright; the next raw and
blustery, is 'extremely harts on the
baby. Conditions are such that the
,mother cannot take the little one out
for the fresh air so Much to be desired.
He is confined to the house which is
often over -heated and badly ventilated.
He catches cold; his "little stomach
and bowels become disordered and the
mother soon has a sick baby to look
after. To prevent this an occasional
dose of Baby's Own Tablets should be
given. They regulate the stomach and
bowels, thus preventing or relieving
colds, simple fevers, colic or any other
of the many minor ills of childhood.
The Tablets are sold by medicine deal-
ers or by mail at 250 a box from The

Known Only By Love:
Of course man is useful to man, be-
cause his body is a marvelous machine
and his mind an organ of wonderful
efficiency-. But he is a spirit as well,
and this spirit is truly known only by
love_ Wheu we define a man by the
market value of the service we can ex-
pect of him, we know him imperfectly.
With this limited knowledge of him it
becomes easy for us be unjust to
him and to entertain feelings of
triumphant self-congratulation when,
on account of some cruel advantage on
our side, we can get out of him much
more than we have paid for. But when
we know him as a spirit we know him
as our own. We at once feel that
enmity to him is cruelty to ourselves,
to make him small is stealing from our
Own humanity, and in seeping to make
use of him solely for liersoual profit
we Merely gain in money or comfort
what we pay for in truth.--Rabindrin-
ith Tagore.

In many a group of the East or West

Early in the nineteenth century a
certain French adventurer, Baron de

He soon discovered, however, that to

caused the des'ertlon of his subjects
and the consequent collapse of his
"kingdom."
A man named Antoine de Tounens

was luckier than de Thierry in that he
