SIGNS OF BETTER TIMES
Signs are inere, asing of the re-
turn of better times. Rising :pric-
es are an indication of more ac.
tive buying, unless resulting from
acute scarcity. The; needs' from
Ottawa the other day,) was thatthe.
family budget in the :cost -of -living
a small increase, but it- was aceoni-
paned by the report that unempl-
oyment had dropped in the same
time. The boom in New York
stocks, followed by advances here, taken; as a favorable sign, any
large stock market movement be
ing consideredthe mass judgment
of the financial interests of a noun

business. Canada's trade position
is orbs of the most encouraging fe-
atures of the year. The favorable
balance of trade—important be-
cause of the country's position as,
a debtor nation—has been mount
ing in a most gratifying manner,
the recent returns showing an ex
cess of exports over imports of
$247267,568 for the twelve months
ending September. For the same

the morning,"' mother said; "go and
take a rest," lint it wasn't all right
in the morning, nor the Morning
after, no, nor a'week after. It was .
then time for a doctor to 'examine
Sammy. The doctorlooked him over
several times, then tools him to a

that Sammy was consumptive and
both held out some hope if he,"took
the cure" at once,
Sammy is quite a favorite tip in
