HAY COUNCIL
The regular meeting of the Town-
ship of Hay was held in the Town
Hall, Zurich, on Monday., December
Zth, with a members present except
.Edmund Walter who teas absent on
:account of illness. The minutes of
'the previous meeting were: passed as,
read. After disposing of the com-
munications the following resotutions
were passed:

ing for rifles, revelations; and charges

Miss Dorothy Ehlers who has not
been so well the past weeks, is im-
proving nicely.
Miss Ruth Rathwell has returned
home after spending a few days with
Miss Ruby Church.
Sorry to report that Miss Lyiyan
Martin, teacher of the Bronson Line
school, is ill this week and unable to
perform her professional duties.
Mr. Albert Foster of Biggar, Sas.
is at present spending a wekk with
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Fos-
ter and other relatives and friends.
The December meeting or the W.
M. S. of St. Peter's Lutheran church
will be held on Monday evening,
December 19th. Members and fri-
ends cordially invited.
The annual Christmas Entertain-
ment of St. Peter's Lutheran church
will be held on Saturday evening,
December 24th, beginning at 7.30
o'clock, when some interesting num-
bers will be rendered including the
pageant entitled: "Prince of Peace".
Mr. and Mrs. Bert Wilkins of Em-
bro, Mr. and Mrs,, Byron Brown of
Thamesford, were Sunday visitors
with their mother, Mrs. Melinda
Wickens, of Ingersoll, but who is
spending the winter months with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Hey, Sr.
A subscriber etrolled into the
office the other day with the follow-
ing suggestion: "Talk about hard
times, why there are men in town
• , that are at present raising mustaches
1which were considered a superfluous
fenceneenovea in the best of times,"
' The Zurich Branch of the Wom-
en's Institute have shipped a bale of
clothing; to northern Ontario for the
more unfortunate children of that
district. A. cordial thanks is extend-
ed all the members and friends who
so.generausiy donated, ae surely some
small heart will be gladened by your
givings.
Who has just returned from the
December sitting of the Huron Coun-
ty, Goderich, where he has occupied
the honourable position of Wardell
of the County for this year, 1932.
As is the custom at the close of the
last session of the meeting, the mem-
bers present the Warden with a gold
headed walking cane and an address.
This was of course earned out, and
following is the address:

At this closing session
of the 1932 Huron County Council,
we take the opportunity of express-
ing our appreciation to you as
Ward en.
We are passing through a difficult
peried of depression, a time which
requires If eiders possessing ability,
courage, endtact, which qualities
you have displayed to a- marked de-
gree. We wish to congratulate you
upon the unfailing courtesy with
which you have treated your assoc-
iatee. the promptness -and firmness
with -which you have carried out the
many duties of youf office.
The fact that you were chosen by
the Wardens of the Province of Ont-
ario .as a Representative to the Agri-
uleu ra AdViStrY Board reflects cred-
it npon yourself and upon your Co-
!. muty, and we desire to compliment
i you upon this honour which has come,

Messrs. O'l3rein & Son have on Tu-
esday of this week made a large ship
merit of dressed turkeys to London.
The Christmas rush along this line
will now soon be over and people
having any fowl to dispose off should
get busy, as owing to conditions
there will likely not be the after
Chrismas demand that prevailed a
few years, ago. .
We are pleased. to report that lit-
tle Rossie Gascho, who had a mild
attack of scarlet fever. a few weeks
ago, has recovered, and is about the
house as usual. We congratulate the
Gascho family as well ae the Medical
Board of Health Officials in using
such good precaution in preventing
the disease from spreading. As to
date we have not heard of any other
case breaking out.
Auto Accidents
Mr. and Mrs. Peter Deichert, Jr.,
of the Blind Line, Hay Township, and
baby daughter, had a narrow escape
from serious injury when their buggy
was smashed by a car at the Egniond-
ville bridge on Friday evening, Dec.
2nd. The driver of the car being
George Gray of Mitchell. Mr. and
Mrs. Deichert had came to Seaforth
in the afternoon to visit their relati-
ves, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Hildebrandt.
and were returning home about 7.30
in the evening, and had almost rea-
ched the Egmondville bridge when
the car travelling in the same direct-
ion piled into the buggy and com-
pletely demolishing the buggy and
also. doing damage ,to the car. The
horse tore itself loose, and during the
night found its way to its home, while
Mr.' and Mrs, Deichert were taken to
a house near by and kept for the
night, and received medical attention
and good care- in the following
morning Mr. and Mrs. Deichert were
brought home by Mr. Deichert's bro-
ther, Jacob. Traffic Officer Norman
Lever was soon on the scene but the
driver of the car had dissapeared with
the car, but an eye witness took down
the licenee number ot the car and
Mr. Lever soon traced the owner to
l'itchell where the authorities dealt
with him, anti advised him 'to inky
