.BUSY FARMER NEWS
Mangels, turnips and sugar beets
are reported as very good crops -gen-
erally throughout the province and
the growers have been busy harvest-
ing their yields.
Reports would indicate that live
stock, especially callte, are going in-
to winter conditions in excellent
shape, and the open weather is wel-
comed because it prolongs the past-
uring season and 'shortens the stab -
Ling period.

tion of the Ontario Marketing Board
that dairy farmers, producing milk
for. the manufacture of cheese, esp-
ecially those in the Woodstock and
Belleville districts, are watching with
considerable interest an experiment
to develop new cheese markets. Two
carloads of the finest quality grade
cheese, have been consigned to Lon-
don, Eng., by the Oxford Cheese Pat-
rons' Association and from the Cen-
tral Ontario Cheese Patrons' .Ass.,,
Bellville. There the cheese will be
sild in small lots through the regular
trade channels.
Honey Prospects Bright .
A cable to the Ontario Marketing
Board indicates the prospects for On-
tario honey, on the British market,:
as exceedingly bright. Empire stocks
of 'high grade honey are low, thus
creating a favorable condition for the
reception of. the suhplus from Ont-
ario. The cable thates that at pres-
ent no -old crop New Zealand honey
is available.
Prizes For Barley
According to J. A, Carroll, Ontario
Department of Agriculture, there is
a very definite market for a good
grade of malting barley. mrtain in-
terests, with the idea of encouraging
the growth of malting barley in On-
tario, have donated cash prizes to be
awarded the best exhibition of 100
pounds of Ontario grown six -rowed
barley shown at the Royal Winter
Fair. The first prize consists of a gold
medal and $500. The other cash
prizes are relatively smaller. Barley
entered in this competition will be
judged more for suitability for malt-
ing than for feed or seed.
