A DIFFERENCE
for a few years the United States
thought she was doing big business:
Well, just now according to the New
York Times she has a debt for 1932
of four billion dollars with only two,
billion in sight to pay it. Not much
wonder her real citizens are doing
some serious thinking. There's a dif-
ference between sound financing and
cultivating a headache.
Boats Laid Up
Twelve grain boats which were out-
fitted this spring were laid up at
Fort Williams for an indefinite period
Low freight rates and small demand
for tonnage are given as the chief
reason. The Patterson Lines has Iaid
up ten boats and Canada Steamship
two. There is said to be sufficient
grainstored at Atlantic ports to take
care of present requirements.

An effective disenfectant for pouI-
try houses developed at the Domin-
ion. Experimental Station, Lennov-
ville, Que., and one which is prov-
ing entirely satisfactorily for washing
poultry equipment and houses, is
made up as follows: Dissolve three-
quarters of a pound of concentrated
lye in as small a quantity of water
as possible. rt will be necessary to do
this several hours before it is requir-
ed, as the lye should be cold when
used. To this add 1% quarts of
raw linceed oil, slowly stirring mean-
while. Keep stirring until a smooth
liquiid soap is produced, then gradu-
ally add one gallon of commercial
creosol, stirring constantly until the
fluid is a clear dark brown. Use one-
half cup of the mixture to a gallon
of water. -.. ev
