The billions of dollars that were shot into the air were borrowed and we gave guarantees to pay back with interest at specified rates. The war is over and the debts remain. We are making the zttinost struggle to meet the obligations but find that we have a herculean task and the tax burden is heavy on the' people. Until we have Iifted these imposts or at Feast materally re- duced the levies we will likely con- tinue living in economic low pres- sures. 4 Diver Goes Down to Wreck On. Sunday Iast on Lake Huron Capt. Earl McQueen, owner of the tug Max L. of Amherstburg, donned a diver's outfit and succeeded in lo- cating the wreck of the iliefated gov- ernment dredge which sunk on the previous Thursday, a few -miles south of Bayfield in 78 feet of water. Scoffing at Our Good Money Canadian money is at a severe dig - count in the United States. Yet no Canadian city has failed to pay its debts promptly or has found itself unable to meet its pay rolls. le- troit owes a million dollars to its emplayees. , Chicago is practically bankrupt. The banks turned down a loan to New York. But here in Canada Toronto raises $15,000,000 in two hours and a half; Montreal sold a $11000,000 loan without trouble; Hamilton gets all the money it wants from the banks, and so ori. There is absolutely no question • a- bout Canadian credit. (Jur pee le have a billion and a quarter on de=- posit in the banks.. 'Yet with this clear record, we allow the U. 5. to say what our money is worth. +-4- Silverwood ,_t,.Silverwood Sales Sales of Silverwood's Dairies Ltd. in the year ended March 31st, 1932, showed an increase in volume but e reduction in money value, it will be shown in the annual report. Bank loans have been reduced and it is said that the financial position of the co- mpany has been otherwise improved. Steady increase in volume and ban ufacturing and distribution ecomies have tended to offset the decline in the spread between producers' prices and -retail values although the neves- sity for the absorption of the six per cent sales tax on ice cream has affected that branch of the industry. Silverwood's Dairies operate retail milk business in Toronto, London; Windsor, Hamilton, and several` small places. It is stated that the dairy cuaj turners number close to 100,000.
