Pension List Decreases
Death has been levying heavy toll
in the ranks of the old -age pensioners
of Huron county, County Clerk Hol-
man recently bus reported to the cen-
tral oftiice the passing of six, mostly
well in their eighties. For several
months' there ha;' been a .progressive
reduction of the number of pension-

county's payment on account of pen-
sions for February was x;2,25L10,
which is considerably lower than the
average of• recently. The number of
new applicants also shows a progres-
sive decrease. In the first (i months
;since the Act came into effect to 1929
applicants placed on the list nwnbe:r-
ed. 447. For the twelve rrxonths of

Mane citizens of town attended
the large funeral of the late Thomas
:vi.ablaut, of Seaforth, last Thurs-;
day, where there were thousand ofi
people gathered to pay their ;asttrib-I
rite te this outstanding statesman, I
who was so much interested in the!

June seems the popiilar month of
Picnics, the Zurich School picnic has
been postponed for another week,
and will be held next Wedn (lay af-
ternoon, besides several other picnics
will be held at Grand Bend and
P>aylield. Truly lot us all forget a-
bout the depression anti get out and
enjoy thee&' social events in the beau-
tiful lake retorts.
Mr. Pepper, of London, who und-
rtook to repair the local water sup-
ply tank in the villa p . was in town
Thursday, and gave the leaking parts
another coating of his leakproof eom-
position. A number rf citizens are
just a little doubtful if this can be
stopped from leaking, as it now
seems that when the tank becomes
full of water it expands sufficently to
cause a little break, which of course
lets the water through again. Un-
doubtedly the old tank has about
eerved its time, and will in time have
to be replaced with a new one.
]\Ir. Wm.. Brown, local shoe mer-
chant, of town was taken to St. Jos-
eph's Hospital, London on Sunday
afternoon, tnd on Monday was oper-
ated on for removal of a tumor which
had quite rapidly developed lately in
Mr. Brown's body. The operation,
which we are told was one of the
most critical, ever performed in that
city, lasted for over three hours. Dar-
ing the operation blood transfusion
wts necessary. The tumor was unus-
ually large and weighed thirty-six
pounds. While Mr. Brown's condition
is very weak, yet he seems to rally
along, and his many friends are hop-
ing for a speedy recovery.
Safecrackers Busy
Safecrackers again visited West-
ern Ontario on the night ofJune2;
and smashed the lock from a small
safe in the office of the Willow Grove
Creamery, four miles from Mitchell,
and escaped with between $4,600
and $4,700 in cash. It was the second
visit to this district within a week,
yeggmen having blown the Farmer's
Co -Operative office safe at 'Merton
recently and carrying off $100 in
cash and $400 in non-negotiable
cheeks and notes. An official of the
creamery, operated by Stacey Bros.
said that the cash was to have bean
used to pay off more than 200 farm-
ers for milk supplied to the dairy,
Of the $4,000 however $8,000 is cove
eyed by insurance, and the farmers;
win be ofven their money es soon as
death.. .- , I arrangements can be made.
