• Lord's Day Act
And Druggists.
•
In order to give information as to
the legitimate business of drug stores
on Sunday, this letter is released to
the Ontario press by the Ontario Re-
tail Druggists' Association and The
Lord"s Day Alliance of Canada to
advise the public that the Lord's Day
Act of Canada, under the head of
"Works of Necessity and Mercy ac-
cepted" (Sec. 11), expressly permits
"works for the relief of sickness and
suffering, including the sale of drugs,
medicines anclesurgical appliances by
retail". The sale or purchase of oth-
er merchandise on Sunday is forbid-
den by the Act. The druggists of
Ontario, acting through the Council
of the Ontario Retail Druggists' As-
sociation, are desirous that the public
should assist them in the observance
of the law by refraining from ask-
ing for other merchandise on Sun-
day.

Corn and Roots
Corn and roots are two crops essen
tial for all kinds of live stock, taking
the place of green grass in the ration
long after the season for grass is ov-
er. Corn is planted any - after
danger of frost is past. Mange's sho-
uld be put in fairly early so that the
seed will have the early moisture.
Turnips are not 'planted before the
second week in June and may go un-
til July 10, If planted too early they
make less palatable feed and those
which make most of their growth b3
early fall.
tullThem Out
As soon as the spring spurt in egg
production commences to lessen there
aro certain hens in every flock that
nld be celled out and marketed.
The sooner they are gotten rid of th.d.
.egger will be the flock profits. Labor
is reduced, feed costs are lowered
and the profitable birds are dvn
more room in the laying .house and
. on the range. Poultry should also sell
for more money in the early part of
the summer than later, so there is a
material gain in disposing of the non-
eroductive birds. One of the simplest
ways to cull the flock is to go over
the birds when they roost at night.
Pick out those with shrivelled, rough
combs and shrunken, hard abdomens.
