There still continues to be a lot of sickness with bad .colds er the flu, and many people are confined to the house and some in bed. Mr. Albert Rittenhouse of Dataavi]le is visiting friendsin this vicinity for a few weeks. We are all glad to see Mr. Rittenhouse looking so well. r Mr. Russell Walters, who is ern - played ployed with Mr. Garnet Jacobe oi the Parr Line, was at Toronto the past week attending the funeral o his father the late Mr. Walters. The friends of town sympathize with Mr. Fred McGreggor of Tucker smith Township in the loss of his dwelling house by fire, the beginning of the week. Mrs. John Bechler, of Blake, and who spent the winter months in the State of Illinoise and with her dau- ghter at Emily City, Mich., has re- turned home and called on friends in town on Saturday. At the auction sale of real estate last Wednesday, of the fauns owned by the Bender Estate, south of town unfortunately there were no bids on the farms, and they were not sold. Mr_ Carl McClinchey has rented the farm recently possessed by Mr. Louis Kraft of town, and formerly occupied by Ma Paul Masse. 1VIr. McClinchey has taken possession. The local onion growers and deal- ers have been busy the past week or so getting their crop marketed which sold at a fair price. But there are still a large number of onions in storage that have no market as yet. Two auction sales will be held ov- er the week -end, the first one on Saturday, 16th, when the 148 acre farm of the Brisson Estate, a half mile south of St. Joseph will be of- fered for sale by auction, and at the same time and place a number of farm implements will also be sold. Then on Monday, at the farm of Mr. Theo. McAdams, Bronson Line, Hay, a number of dairy cows and two hor- ses, the property of Mr. John Hey, Jr., of town, will be sold, -by public auction. The annual session of the Canada Conference of the Evangelical church will commence on Wednesday noon, April • 20th, when the Conference President, Bishop J. F. Dunlap, D.D. of Cleveland will make tae olalc.ial opening of Conference in the Zion Evangelical Church, Kitchener. The executives of the conference will meet a day or two earlier, and the sessions usually end on Saturday or Monday, while special speakers are always present for Conference Sun- day, which will this year be on Ap- ril 24th. The public are invited to attend the various gatherings. We feel indeed very sorry for the many spring birds which have co,ae in our midst 'thinking • thWsplhig• was here to stay, and rejoiced last week with the nice warm weather, but even these innocent creatures seem to get too ambitio':s and anxious to build up their summer homes. We notice a goodly number of robins' who are in great distress of the cold, and snow, and likely a goodly numb -l. er will succumb to the cold. We 1 would suggest that if you see any of these birds around kindly put out.' a. little feed, es a few scraps of bread• of leftovers will be little expense and grc..t';;' help the birds over this un- asonablo weather. TROUBLE IN 1-1EluSALL Young men with jobs are not al- lowed to wear out the sdewalks i alks of Elensall without paying for the priv- ilege. Owen Geiger is reeve of that' village and he has an eye to revenue But ten young• men did not pay the $3.00 poll tax in 1931, so c«ey were summoned before Justice of the Peace G. C. Petty lay Village Con- stable Geo. Hudson. All paid up ex- cept one. The exception was Robert Robinson, Jr., whose father is a mem- ber of Hensall council. Robinson sen- ior, advised his son not to pay the poll tax because the council had not appointed a collector to pay it to. This oversight of the court, if it is an oversight, had no weight : with Magistrate Reid, who mulcted Robin- son junior for the $8.00 tax and in addition $5.50 court costs. The case was heard om March 30th and accus- ed was given until April 2nd todig up the $8.50, which is considerable sum of money these days.—Goderich Star. CLINTON'S MAYOR DIES Mayor Sam. S.
