Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Deters, Sr., . op-
ent a day in Heimall the past week,
Mr. Ward Fritz has made two,trips'

turning with two cars.
Mr. Earl Yungblut who was a vis-
itor with his uncle in Detroit, has
returned home.
The local sportsmen were out on a
jack rabbit hunt on Tuesday, return-
ing with a bag of 34 jacks..
Mr. and Mrs. W. Decker, Mrs. Ferd
Haberer and Greta, were visitors at
Crediton on Sunday.
Monday afternoon, January 25th,
is the date of the annual meeting oe
the Hay Township Mutual Vire In-
surance Company.

The annual meeting of the memb-
ers of the Hay Telephone System :will

London one day last week.
Mr. John W. Horner of town has
dealt autos with Mr. Ward • Fritz,
disposing of his New Ford coach, for
an Essex sedan. While Mr. W. L.
Wagner of town has exchanged his
Essex coach for a Pontial coach with
C. Fritz & Son, used car dealers.
Mr. and Mrs. Chris. Zirk, of Hay
Township, have purchased the resi-
dence of the late Thomas Flynn and
expect to move to Exeter some time

Mr. and Mrs. Hilton Truemner, Mr.
Conrad, and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. True-
mner motored to London one day
last week, where they visited the lat-
iter brothers' sister, Mrs. Geiser of
Shipka, who is convalescentat the
hospital in that city.
All members of the Zurich W. In-
stitute of the local branch are invit-
ed to attend the social evening, on
Thursday, January 21st in Council
Chambers at 8 o'clock. The losing
side of the autoghaphen quilt contest
are sponsoring this, and promises to
be an interesting event in every way

Dr. A. J. MacKinnon was immediat-
ely called and administered medical
attention.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Howald were
to London the beginning of the week
to visit their daughter (Muriel) Mrs.
Orville Steinbach, who has been for
a few weeks in the hospital, .recover-
ing from an appendicitis operation,
when she contracted a bad cold which
developed into pneumonia, and Mrs.
Steinbach was seriously ill, but thanks
she ,is improving.
Owing to a better demand for
money the old established Huron &
Erie have advanced the interest rate
on debentures to 51is per cent: it is
seldom that this rate can be secured
on this class of securities, and if you
have any funds for investment now
is the time to invest. Applications

any time by A. F. Hess, local ag-

A Little Fellow
On January 16th a Durham OW
belonging to Mrs. Jos. Rau, of the
Blue Water Highway, near .urysdale,
gave birth to a very unusually small
calf. The little fellow when arrived
in this world was in every normally
grown, but very much undersized. It
measured only 24 inches in length,
and stood 18 inches in height weigh-
ing only 21 pounds. It is being rais-
ed on a bottle, taking a cup of milk
every two hours, but is very thrifty
and smart. Aoodly number of peo-
ple have found their way to the
home of Mrs. Rau, to have a look at
this "little fellow".
Bible Class Meets .'
The Bethany Sisters Bible Class of
the Evangelical Sunday School, Zur-
ich, consisting of seventeen members
met last Thursday evening in the
assembly room of the church to el-
ect officers for the year. A splendid
report by the late secretary, Mrs. J.
E. Gascho was given showing the
good interest the class has manifest-
ed the past year, the offering amount-
ing to $29.89. Mrs. 3. Ehlers who
had beenconvenor of the Good Cheer
Committee, read a very interesting
report, which stated that 89 sick vis-
its were made, 35 bouquets were
sent, 49 treats and 24 cheer cards we -
sent out the past year. The election,
at which the pastor, Rev. W. Y.
Dreier, was chairman, resulted as fol-
lows,: President, Mrs. J. K. Ehlers;
Vice -Pres., Mrs. J. Geiger, Secretary
Mrs. L. Geiger, Asst. -Secy., Mrs. S.
Zimmerman; treasurer, Mrs. A. Web -
,r. The appointed teacher for this
class is Mr. E. Gabel, and his assist-
out, teacher, Mrs. C. L. Smith.
Mr. Archie Beider of Dashwood,
was in town on Tuesday.
Mr. Fred Papineau left for Detroit,
where he will likely receive employ-
ment.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Haberer, • Miss
Freda Haberer, 1VIr. Victor Deichert,
and Mrs. E. Deters attended the fun-
eral of the late Mr, George Bauer at
Tavistock on Sunday. last.

Messrs. C. Fritz & Son, ' used car

The inaugural meeting of the Zur-
ich Police Trustees was held on Mon-
day with Mr. A. F. Hess officiating
in hisM,capacity as Clerk, when the fol-
lowing subscribed to the declaration
of office: Conrad Schilbe, Josiah Ge-
iger, and John Hey, Jr. After being
organized Mr. Josiah Geiger was el-
ected of superintending Trustee, or
better known as chairman. Lir. A.
Hess was appointed Secretary, H.
Mousseau as fire Chief, C. L. Smith
as caretaker of the water supply. A
grant of $25.00 was voted on for the
urich Library.
New Ford Eight to be
a Sensation
Goderich Star -District salesman -

Doherty, of the Ford Motor Comp-
any, with headquarters at London,
were in town on Tuesday and anno-
unce a new Ford car, an eight at
the price of the present Ford car,
with beautiful lines and all modern
ideas in construction. The eight will
be the first of the 1932 Ford line to
be out and will be on exhibition at!
the Detroit Motor Show. The new `•
four will follow and a big sensation
is forecasted.

In Certain Cases Students to Be
Admitted to High Schoor on
Principal's Recommendation
With the approval of the Goderich
and Exeter High School Entrance
boards it has been decided to intro-
duce in the inspectorate of West Hur-
on, within certain, limitations, the
principle of admitting candidates to
high school on the recommendation
of principals. P. S. Inspector E. C.
Beacom, who is also secretary of the
entrance boards, has issued to the
principals of public andseparate
schools in the inspectorate a circular
setting forth the conditions that must
be fulfilled in order that the privil-
ege of passing candidates on the pr-
incipal's recommendation may be
granted to any school.
