Mr. meld -Mrs.-Herbert Harmer of
Southampton' were visitors last week
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. D.W.

The euchre and dance which was
put on by the Hensall firemen on Fri-
day eve last was a decided success,
some fifty tables being used bby the
large crowd present. Euchre was 1:11 -
eyed in the early part of the even-
ing after which dancing was enjoyed
and theernusic was furnished by local
talent.
The first meeting of the new co-
uncil for the year took place Monday
last as required by statute. Reeve
Geiger and Councillors Mickle, Petty
Spencer and Robinson took their
oath of office and were sworn in. It
was +elided -on that the regurar me-
etings of the council be held on the
first Monday of the month at 8 o'-
clock p.m. Anumber of communi-
cations were read and disposed off. A
number of accounts were ordered to,
be paid. 'A discussion took place as to
a reduction of salaries of the differ-
ent town officials and it was agreed
on a reduction of ten per cent. By-

second and third reading„ appointing
the different. officials for the year and

Lutheran Church Meeting •
The annual meeting of the Luth-
eran Church was held on. Monday af-
ternoon with Mr. L. H. Rader as
chairman. The election of officers
resulted as follows: Board of Eldors:

Secretary, Peter Martene. Ushers:
Lloyd Rader, Victor Kraft, Melvin
Restemeyer, Melvin Stade, Edgar Re-
stemeyer, Albert Miller. The care-

Mr. L. H. Rader was re-elected chair-
man of the board for the year 1932.
The church has been successful in
meeting all financial obligations for
the year tnd the sum of $408.60 has
been remitted for missions. The Par:

Ladies' Aid & W.M.S.
The Dashwood Evangelical Ladies'
Aid and W.M.S. held their January
meeting at the church last week with
19 members present. Rev. A. W.
Sauer conducted the opening worship
choosing as his lesson Luke 13: 1-17.
Mrs. D. Tiernan occupied the chair
for the business session. The work
committee reports that a bale of clo-
thing and three comforters had been
sent for Western Relief. There were
52 visits made' to the sick and shut-
ins during the month. Mrs. W. Snell
and Mrs. M. Neeb were appointed as
visiting committee for this month.
AIrs. D. Tiernan, Mrs. V. Schatz, Mrs.
R. H. Taylor and Mrs. A. E. Oestrei-
cher were named as a committee to
investigate means and cost of re-
pairing the church organ and instal-
ling an electric motor for pumping..

The death occurred on Saturday

• C. M. Walker and son, Fred, have

New York last Friday morning.
August and Louis Wild, former re-
sidents of Stanley Township, and bro-
thers of the Misses Wild of Goderich,
recently had an experience' in their
place of business at Nekoma, North
Dakota, which might. have turned out
much :more seriously than it did. In
a holdup, one of the brothers was
shot, but will recover, while the other
brother was injured in the mixup.
G. B. Davis, organist, of St. Geo-
rges' church, Goderich, sailed from.
St. John, N.B., on Friday for Cardiff

of Norman Wilson, accused .of forg-
ing cheques on Deputy Reeve Moser
Royal Bank account to the extent of
$830. The crowd, however; was• do-

news was passed around that there
was going to be an adjournment of
one week. The proceedings were short
had simple. Frank Donelly; who has
been engaged by Wilson, asked for a
week's remand, which was granted.
He also made application• for bail,
which was fixed' at $2;51/01 Tlie sec-
urity was promptly forthcoming: An
expert on hand writing• is being cal-
led in from Toronto.
Complaints as to the• cosh of the
administration of•"justice in Huron
county, which were ventilated at the
meeting of the county council in De-
cember, having come to the atten-
tion of the Attorney -General's Dep-
artment at Toronto, a visit to the
county was made by 'Col. Denison.
Provincial inspector of legal' offices
and a report has since been received

fused to respond to the combinations

An old resident of Seaforth, in the
person of Mary Elizabeth Tyerman,
widow of Lawrence Melvile, passed
away on Sunday last at the age of
seventy-nine years. In 1925 Mr. and
Mrs. Melville celebrated their golden
wedding. He predeceased her three
and a half years. One daughter at
home survive§:
Caught in 'the swolen waters of a
creek which'runr through his father's
property, John Revington, Stanley, 2 -
year -old son of Revington Stanley,
gasoline station proprietor, at Elgin -
field, was drowned. The little lad was
playing along the edge of the creek,

believed to have slipped and falen in-
to the water.
Business at the Goderich harbor
has been brisk the past week. Winter
storage boats are . being shifted to
the elevator for unloading, Work in
this connection commenced on Tues-
day last when the freighter.. North -
ton wan unloaded of 113,00 bushels
of wheat. The Mantadoc is in pro-
cess of being unloaded of 212,000
bushels. It is expected also that the
Flour Mills Co., will commence un-
loadinga boat this week.
