Mr. and Mrs. James Patterson sy-
ent the holiday with relatives at
Kitchener.
The marriage of Edith, fourth da-
ughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles
Wolfe, of Hensall, to Norman Baird,
of near Brucefield, tookplacerecently
at the home of her sister, Mrs. Rohn-
er Goderich. Following the serving
of a wedding sufper at the home of
the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Baird were entertained by friends in
Exeter.
There passed away at Dr. Moir's
Hospital, London Road, on Saturday
last, William D. Blatchford, in his
63rd year. He was a son of the late
Mr. and Mrs. James Blatchford of
London Tp., and farmed there till he
and his mother moved to Hensall 15
years ago. Since the death of his
mother about 12 years ago, he has
lived alone. He has been in poor
health for some time, gradually grow-
ing worse. He was taken to Dr.
Moir's Hospital Saturday morning
and passed away in the evening.

Rev. A. W. Sauer attended • the
funeral of the late Rev. M. L. Wing
in Kitchener last week.
Mrs. Abel of Detroit, Mrs. Vernon
and son Melville of Royal Oak, Mich
and Mr. and Mrs. R. Armstrong and
family of London, visited their mo-
ther, Mrs. P. Mclsaac who has not
been in the best of health lately. Mrs
Mcisaac is 88 years of age and until
recently has been in good health.
Miss Verna Kraft of London sp-
ent the week -end hith her mother,
Mrs. M. Kraft.
Mr, and Mrs. H. Hoffman and
Harry and Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Guen-
ther visited relatives in London on
Sunday.
Mrs. Adella Fisher of London sp-
ent a few days at her home here.
The many friends of Miss Kraft
will be pleased to hear that she is
improving after her recent illness.
Her mother, Mrs. C. Kraft is also ill
but is improving.
Miss Ruth Tieman is confined to
her home with an infection in the
knee.

well as the skaters have been disa-
pointed this year owing to the mild
weather.
The annual meeting of the Dash-
wood Public School was held in the
school recently with Mr. E. Nadiger
as chairman. Me. E. G. Kraft was
re-elected .trustee for a term of three
years. The caretaking was awarded
to Mr. Fred Guenttner. After con-
siderable discussion a motion to in-
stall a water system and erect a fire
escape was carried. The inspector's
report showed that the work of the
staff is being well done and the pupils
are making good progress.
At the Sunday School service in
the Evangelical church on Sunday,
Margaret Wein and, Lloyd Guenther
were each presented with a bible foe
having attended every Sunday during
the past year.

MacLeod and his assistant of Clinton
were at Dungannon the past week or
so conducting agricultural courses.
A quiet wedding took place at the
United Church, Manse, Inwood on
Monday, December 28th at 2 o'clock,
when Mary Eileen, daughter of Wm,
Allison of West McGillivray was uni-
ted in marriage to Roy Schenk, of
Crediton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul
Schenk of Crediton.
Harry G. Strang, of Usborne, who
is a student at the Agricultural Col-
ege, Guelph, is to be congratulated
on rice splendid showing he made at
the Christmas examinations. He came
out second in t class of 93 with only
21 marks behind the first. Out of a
possible 1,400 marks he obtained
1,285.
A second nomination meeting was
ailed and held in the town hall Bay-
field, last Monday evening for the
purpose of nominating a third Police
Trustee for the Village. Lewis Thom-
son was only one nominated. . He
was persuaded to qualify so that the
Trustees for the year are: ' Harold
Brandon, W. J. McLeod arid Lewis
Thomson. -
The ice storm on Thursday even-
ing last completely wrecked the tele-
phone system in Goderich. Township.
Friday morning presented a beauti-
ful but costly picture with the ice -
covered wires festooned in gala array
from the posts. About one hundred
posts were broken off between God-
erich and Bayfield on the Bayfield
road. Luckily there was no personal
injury. One car became entangled
with the wires and was completely
turned around and ditched bue with-
out any damage.
While chopping wood blocks, Arn-
old Case, Seaforth, nearly lost his
left hand when one of the blocks
slipped and the axe struck a slanting
blow near his wrist, cutting the ten-
.dons. The wound required several
stitches.
Fire destroyed a Stable on the pre-
mises of Wm. Haddock, Centralia,on-
Tuesday last. It is not known how
the fire started. A car and some oth-
er contents of the building were re-
moved, the car being slightly scorch-
ed. There was some insurance.
The funeral of Sarah Ann Homey,
widow of Jas. Ferguson, who died at
Chatham, took place to the Exeter
cemetery from the home of her da-
ughter, Mrs. Christie, Stephen tp. De
ceased who was in her 79th year,
formerly lived in the Exeter district
'Reformatory terms of 3 months de -
'terminate and three months indeter-
niinate • were . meted out to Albert
Howald and Chester Dellow, of Ste-
phen Township, by Magistrate C. W.
Hawkshaw of London. Both were
convicted a week ago of stealing 3
cords of hardwood from the wood-
pile of school section No. 3, East
Williams. The theft was committed
on Dec. 14th. County police produ-
ced Dellow's record which showed
that on Jan. 1926 he had been sent-
enced to serve 1% to five years in the
Michigan State Prison for breaking
and entering. Howald had no past
record.
Rev. D. McTavish, who for the past
5% years has beeen the popular
pastor of the James St. United chu-
rch, Exeter, and who a short time
ago tendered his resignation to the
Oficial Board to take effect at, the
end of the conference year, has re-
ceived and accepted an invitation to
become the pastor of the Port Hope
United Church in the Bay of Quinte
conference. Rev. G. A. Sisco, of
Port Hope, has been invited to Sarnia
which necessitates a transfer from
the London to Bay of Quinte confer-
ence. While Exeter is regretting to
loose Mr. McTavish and family, his
many friends congratulate him on be
ing involved to so splendid a charge.
Friends sympathize with Mr. and
Mrsfl John McBeath, near Varna in
the sudden death of their 11 -year-old
son, Stewart M., who passed away
on New Year's day. The deceased
boy had been sorely afflicted since a
baby, having suffered a paralytic
stroke when a few days old. As a
result he has been absolutely help-
less for the whole of his short eleven
year. His sudden passing was the
result of acute appendicitis. In his
undeveloped condition he could not
withstand the severe illness and his
young life went out with the com-
ing the the New Year. Besides his
parents, one brother suhvives.
The other day a young man nam-
ed Norman. Wilson, of Goderich, was
chat'ged before magistrate Reid with
forging two cheques amounting to
830 on the Royal Bank account of
J. J. Moser of that pleace, with whom
:le had been employed for two years
One cheque for •$580, drawn to the
:aver of John Brown, was cashed by
the Goderich branch, the other, for
$250 in favor of J. Finnegan, was
cashed at the Clinton branch of the
same bank. The forgeries are said to
be very clumsily done.

and neighbors soon arriving and for-
med a bucket brigade, and with much
effort put the fire under control. The
blaze started in a closet underneath,
the stairway, which was likely start-
ed from a rag to wipe off the stove
which had been previously used. It
had worked its way through the st-
airway and was hard to extin'guish.
(Mary Landsboro, widow of George
Stanbury, late of Clihteen passed: a-
way last week at the home of her da-
ughter, Mrs. John H. McEwen of St-
anley Tp, aged 84 years. She had be-
an in failing health for several mon-
ths and death was due to the weariing
out of her frame, and death came
like sleep to a tired chitd. She. was a.
daughter of the late Robt. Lands -
borough of T'uelcersmith, being boric
on a farm, and after marriage lived'
for over 40 yearsoar the fay on:tlte
London Road. About twenty years a-
go with her husband moved to) Clin-
ton. til the departure of her husband
four years age. • She is survived by
two daughters, Mrs. McEwen and
Mrs. Falconer.
Exeter Man Acquitted
Charged with assault after the
death of John • Barry, 78 -year-old
Centralia farmer, Charles Gadbott, of
Exeter, was acquitted in County Po-
lice Court, London. The Crown at-
torney offered o evidence against
him. Maurice Long, also of Exeter,
was arraigned for having liquor in
other than his private dwelling; but
he, too, was allowed to go. Barry
was found lying on the flfloor of his
little home,,• near Centralia, serrousiI'
ill, on March 3, He told police that
he had been attacked and beaten by
Godbolt. He was taken to London•
hospital, and then later removed to
his home and died •in June. Before
his death, Barry made an ante-mor-
tem statement in which he swore he
had been the victim of an attack.
However, an autopsy showed that he
had died from cancer.
New Method to Preserve
Honey
Discovery of a new method of pre-
serving honey as an opaque, gray -
white butter instead of a golden N-
qufd was ,announced at Cornell Uni-
versity, N. Y. The new product cal-
led crystal honey, has a slightly dif-
ferent
ferent flavor. It neither drips nor sp-
reads sticky, smears and has been of-
fered by the university to the honey
industry. The discovery it the ac-
complishment of a young Canadian,
Dr. E. J. Dyce, who made a gift of
the process to Canadian honey pro-
ducers and to Cornell.
