Miss Cathern Merner who is at- tending London Normal, spent the week -end with her parents here. Mrs. Gordon Walper, who has spent :several weeks with relatives here, has returned to her home in South Caro- lina. The annual business meeting of St. Peter's Lutheran church is being held on Wednesday afternoon of this week. Rose who recently was taken to London Hospital, will be pleased to learn that she is improving nicely. Merrsr Andrew F. Hess and Arthur Weber motored to Crediton on Fri- day last where they audited the bo- oks of the Hay Township Farmer's Mutual Fire Insurance Company. Hay Council met on Monday af- ternoon for their inauguration meet- ing, and after subscribing to the qu- alifications, the various officers were appointed for the year. A full ac- count of the meeting will appear in our next issue. Engineers F. C. Ads:tt and Mr. McKenzie of the Hydro Electric Com- mission, Toronto were in tow on Tuesday, and looked over the finan- cial and general conditions of the local system in Zurich. They ad- vised that the Zurich system for the 'past few years has shown a d'efieit and something must be done to meet this deficit. And of course we all realize that in order to meet this deficit higher rates will have to come in force, and a very unwelcome neva this would be to us all in these days of depression. The annual financial reports of they, Hay Township Farmers' Mutual Fire Insurance Company, have been print- , ed and are being mailed to the var- ious policyholders. The report shows that the' company has had during the year losses amounting to $13,101.07, the largest for some years; the runn- ing management for the year cost is $2,826.75. The total amount of pol- icies in force at present is 1933. The total assets of the company is x;240,- 231:25, and the company is finan- cially in a healthy condition. The annual meeting of the company.. will be held in the Town Hall, Zurich on Monday January 25th, for the annual business meeting. Rev. M. L. Wing, Pesses Memorihl services were held on Wednesday• afternoon last week of Rev. M. L. Wing, who died at Kit- chener on Saturday evening in his 80th year, front his late home on Park Street to Calvary Evangelical church. During Mr. Wing's pastor- ate he served as pastor in Listowell, Seb'%ngviile, Campden, Zurich, Wat- trloo, Kitchener, and was presiding elder for nearly two decades. He was one of the,outstanding ministers in the Canada Conference and dur- ing his time held many prominent positions.
