A citizen advises us that two of our young fellows engaged in an auto speed contest with two cars through town Sunday- afternoon. We do not know just where the sharp eye of the law was at the time, but evidently the boys forgot that .this racing is entirely ,contrary to law'es.- pecially through town. However no domage was done, and the spectators Mr. and Mrs. Daniel lCoehled of Kitchener, were week -end visitors with relatives here. Miss Alma Yungblut of Auburn, is visiting at the home of her brother Mr. and Mrs. Harry Yungblut. Mr. Harold Walker of the Bank of Montreal staff, spent the week -end at ,his home in Walkerton. Mr. Everaee Heist, accompanied by bis father at Crediton, were on. businessto Strathroy on Wednesday. Mr.' and Mrs. Lennis Callfas and family of Kitchener, were Sunday visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Melick. Mr. Ezra Dumart, accompanied by some chums of Kitchener, were in town and vicinity on Tuesday doing some hunting, and were successful in landing some wild game. The Rally Day services observed in the Evangelical church on Sunday were in every way well enjoyed by the large congregations that gathered for the occasion. In the evening service, Rev. W. Robinson delivered a very appropriate message which was indeed enjoyed. The fine new bake oven which Mr. Henry Howald is erecting inReith's isa te'y, is making fine progress. The bottom brick work being all com- pleted, and preparations are now in progress to close in the arch, and then there is the chimney to build, after which it will be ready for use after a few "week's firing so as to dry it out first. This will indeed be a big help to Mr. Reith, as the oven will have a capacity of 230 loaves of bread at one time. The death occurred on Monday in Hay Township of John Penhale in his 76th year. He was twice married. 3 children survive, Edgar 0. Penhale, Mrs. A. J. Ford of Detroit, and Mrs. C. Lauff of Detroit. also his second wife, formerly Phoebe Tinney, Wm. Penhale of Exeter and Thos. Penhale of Vancouver are brothers. The fun- eral takes place from his late resid- ence on Lake Road on Friday. The service at two o'clock and interment in the Exeter cemetery. Among the most steady and con- tinuous workmen in the community we cannot help but mention the name of Andrew Thiel of town, who has recently put in his 42nd year as a continuous employee of the Zurich Flour Mills. Having been engaged for 30 years as teamster and the past 12 years as driver of the truck. During all this time Mr., Thiel has had many a hard trip from Zurich to Hensall, and probably! there is no man in the community that knows these six miles of road just quite as well as Mr. Thiel does. Outside of a few rheumatic joints, Mr. Thiel looks and feels hale and hearty, and can still do a good day's work, and looks as though he might for a goodly number of years be at - had something to look at while we tending to the conveying of the hope the boys got their usual "thrill" local mill's products to and from out of the contest.
