On some Ontario farms signs are
said to be erected inviting motorists
to stop and help themselves to the
produce in the fields. The only auth-
entic case reported of such a sign as
this was at a field where the most
conspicious thing to be seen was a
very large bull pawing the ground
expectantly. -Ex.
Some real fine showers of rain
greeted this part of Ontario on Sun-
day and Monday nights. The ground
was the dryest that we have exper-
ienced for some time, and these rains
were badly in need. It will greatly
assist the farmers in putting in and
in bringing along the fall wheat crop,
and should assist with fall plowing.
The late crops such as roots, buck-
weat, will also receive much benefit.
Old Age Pensions
During the last session of the Fed-
eral Parliament a legislation was
passed providing for the government'
taking over. 75 per cent of the cost
of old age pensions in Canada, and
this is raising the question of who
pays the balance and when, Pre4'ious
to this the Dominion Government
paid 50 per cent, the Ontario 'Gov-
ernment 30 per cent., and the County,
20 per cent. If the Ontario Govern-
ment agrees to assume the balance
it will still be 5 per cent less than
they were paying, and the County's
liability will be eliminated entirely.
