One of the heaviest rains and elec-
tric ,'orms seen in many a. day pas-
sed over this sectionearly on Wed-
nesday morning between three and
six o'i:lock, and it sure did rain, with
practically no wind. The lightning
was severe at times, and just now we
are advised of three places where it
struei . The chimney of the house
of Mr, George Thiel of the 14th con.
was Wt., but little damage done, this
is Novi+aver not the first time this
house .`has had similar experience,
and eve are beginning to think that it
is standing on "dangerous ground".
A hone of Mr. Henry Krueger of the
14th con., and a horse of Wm. Gren-
ier, soreth: of town were also kilted by
lightning. Theheavy fall of rain
did considerable damage by smashing
down the heavy crops, that is: the
summer grain, but the fall wheat
withstood. it fine, and farmers are
getting ready to put the binder in
this spllrmdaid crop of wheat.
Exeter Man Is
Electrocuted
A shadow of gloom was caste over
the conununity early Wednesday aft-
ernoon: when it was learned that Mr.
Wm. Lutman, lineman for the Exeter
Public: Utilities Commission, had be-
en suddenly electrocuted while in the
act of repating a transformer in
front, of Wm. Rivers on Simr.oe st.
Lutman with his assistant, Elmer Re-
eder„ had made some repairs to .the
transformer in the morning and at
noon: it was reported that the trans-
former fuse had blown out. Mr. Lute
mart was in the act of climbing the
hydeo pole and had not leftthe gro-
und, simply putting his arm around
the polo when he received the shock
that resulted in death. There is a wire
on either side of the pole connected
with tie transformer and the ground
and it borne manner one: of them had
beeoree short circuited. The news of
his death carne as a severe shock to
his bereaved widow and two children
, who have ' much, sympathy. Mr.
Lut,msn has been connected with the
Exeter Public Utilities for several
years, and before the Exeter Rural
System took over the 'management of
the Zurich System, Mr. Lotman did
