Mr. Morris Weber, of Goderich,
and a former resident of Zurich, is
at present employed in the Kalbflei-
sch planing mill in town. •
A goodly number from Zurich and
vicinity attended the big Liberal Con-
vention at Clinton, last Wednesday
afternoon.
Rev. E. Turkheim and Layman F.
C. Kaibfleisch attended the annual
Synod Convention of the Evangelical
Lutheran church, which began on
Wednesday and lasted over the we-'
ek-end.
Sorry to report that Mrs. Ed. Axt
the other day in some way while in
the kitchen, lost her balance and fell
with the result that she bruised her
leg. Fortunately not the same leg
she had previously injured.
The many friends of Mrs. Peter
Brennerman of Blake, and who re-
cently underwent an operation at
London hospital, will be pleased to
learn that she is improved to the
extent that she is expected to leave
the hospital the latter part of this
week..
Mr. dames Masse, of the Blue Wat-
er Highway, has leased the farm
near St. Joseph from the Executors
of the Aserick Brisson estate, for the
1931 season on shares. Mr. Masse
took immediate possession and during
1931 will have under his control ov-
er 500 acres of land.
Brown's Shoe Store is putting on

which prices of shoes have been re-

To be suddenly taken ill on the
way home from -Grand rend, where
he had been on business, and to have
the steering gear of his car go wrong

pleasant experience of Ed. Linden -
field, of Traquar & Lindenfield, of
Exeter. Fortunately Mr. Lindonfield
was not injured in the mishap and is
recovering from his illness.
Mnand Mrs. Lee O'Rrein motored
to Stratford on Wednosaiay last. Mrs.
W. H. Roffman, who spent a week in
that city, at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. W. F. Finkbeiner, returning
with Mr. and Mrs. O'Brein. Sorry
to report that Mr. Finkbeiner is not
enjoying his usual health, but hopes
are entertained for his complete re-
covery.
Perch fishing, that fine little sport
that is so enticing this time of the
year, has not been so abundant so
far this year. A goodly number of
enthusiasts have tried their luck at
Grand Bend and Bayfield, with little
success, but it has proven that at
St. Joseph the best catches have so
far been made, some nice hauls we-
re last week just off the old peer. If
one wishes to catch the perch you
must go where they are biting.

Kitchener and Waterloo.

Miss Anna Datars, milliner of the
' village, has moved her entire stock
from Mr. Hoist's block in one of the
former sample rooms of the old com-
mercial hotel, and now owned by Mr.
Herbert Krueger, This part of the
building has been formerly occupied
by Mr. Kenneth Routledge, with his
peanut wholesale business. it is a
fine and roomy place and will serve
the purpose well for Miss Deters.
Mr. John Kipping has opened up to
the public, a garage business • for gen-
eral repair work including fender and
body work, in the premises owned by
Mr. A. G. Edighoffer, and which is
partially occupied by Mr. Harold
Johnston, as a barber shop. This
building was formerly occupied by
Mr. A. 0. Elliot, of Exeter as the
garage and show room of the Ford
Cornpany. Mr. Kipping was former

Canada Lutherans Convened at
Kitchener
The 96th annual Evangelical Luth-
eran Synod convention was held at
Kitchener the past week, beginning
on Wednesday evening in St. Peter's
Church with confession, absolution
and Hily Communion service. More
than 100 delegates from all parts of
Ontario were assembled for the con-
vention which continued until Sun-
day. It was the first time in the his-
tory of this church that the Synod
has convened within its walls. A.
memorial service was held on Thurs-
day and on Sunday the ordinary ser-
vice was held. The statistics for the
past year showed good progress in.
the general life of the church.
McNeil Cases This Week
The McNeil brothers, Gilford and
Harvey, as to whose guilt on the
charge of robbing the Bank of Nova
Scotia, Brussels, of $5,000 a jury
disagreed at the spring assize co:irt,
will again stand trial on Tuesday of
this week at the County Court and
General Sessions of the Peace before
His Honor Judge T. M. Costello and
a jury. This course has been direct-
ed by the Atturney-General of Ont-
,ario, who— 1ms. zuled that, inasmuch

eral jail delivery, the McNeil robbery
cases should not be held over until
the .fall assizes except at the expres-
sed wish of the accused. The Crown
prosecutor named for the trial is Geo
T. L. Bull, K.C., of North Bay, a
well-known criminal lawyer of the
north county. D. E. Holmes has with
drawn as one of counsel for the de-
fence by reason of his appointment
as Crown attorney of Hugon county.
Campbell Grant, of Walkerton, as-
sociate counsel with Mr. Holmes at
thefirst trial will be the chief de-
fence. A. E. Rae, former Provin-
cial inspector of police, who conduct-
ed the investigation and effected the
arrest of accused,. is himself a fug-
itive from justice. and it is stated,
he will not again be produced as wit-
ness. His testimony at the first trial
was only of a corroborative nature.
