Fire, saidi to have been caused by the explosion of an oil engine, the other day destroyed the large frame chopping mill in the village of Ethel owned by Clifford Dunbar. The loss is placed at $5,000. ThTe blaze st- arted shortly after 8 o'clock in the afternoon. Two workmen, A. Dun- bar and M. Henry, who were starting the engine, narrowly escaped being seriously injured. A new industry in Goderich put its product for the first time the past week when the plant of the Goderich Bottling Works, on Picton st. went into operation. The plant has been 'under construction for six weeks and is equipped to manufacture all man- ner of carbonated drinks. The regis- tered name of these new soft drinks is to be "Tweedie's icy Drinks." No pupil may speak to another candidate, and presiding offi- cer at examination and barred from making any explanation regarding the probable meaning of any question or to give any advice as to what qu- estions should be answered. Gordon V. Lewis drove towards Goderich on the Highway and had to pay a fine of $10 in., Magistrate Reid's Court for doing it. Firemen Meet A busineess meeting of the Ontar- io West Volunteer Firemen's Associ- ation was held in the town hall Mit- ehell, recently. The attendance was good, despite the unfavorable weath- er. President C. W. Draper, of Clin- ton, presided. The main business of the meeting,was to receive committee reports and set in motion the mach- inery for holding the 1931 firemen's convention and tournament at Clin- ton 'on June 30th and July 1st. The annual convention will open at 8.00 p.m. on June 30th with the field day and tuonuunent the following day. Min.
