Mrs. John Kuntz of Dashwood, called on Zurich friends on Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Gies of Waterloo, were Monday visitors with Rev. and Mrs. W. Y. Dreier. Mrs. McAlphin of Detroit was a week -end visitor with her sister, Mrs Wm. O'Brein. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Gascho and Mr. Ed. Gascho made a business trip to London on Monday. Mr. Wm. Beaver of Hensall, cal- led on friends in the village on Wed- nesday. Rev. and Mrs. W. Sippell of Cred- iton were visitors with, Mr. and Mrs. Josiah Geiger and Mr. and Mrs. A. Melick on Tuesday. While in town Mr. Sippell purchased from G. Fritz & Son, a new Ford sedan. Mr. Wm. Consitt, of Hensall, the district Census organizer was in town the other day and appointed Messrs. Henry Howald and J. P. Rau, as the local agents for taking the 1931 cen- sus. Dr. H. H. Cowen wishes to advise the public that his offices at Zurich and Dashwood will be closed next we- ek, as the Doctor is attending the Ontario Dental Convention at Tor- onto, and will be out of town. In last week's issue we made men- tion of Mrs. N. A. Cantin at St. Jos- eph presenting her husband with a baby girl, this should have read, a fine baby boy. Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Wagner and son Leonard of town, accompanied 1.)y Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Hendrick of the Blue Water Highway, were Sun- day visitors at Kitchener and also viewed the remains of the 'axe Aire. C. Greb. House Burns On Tuesday noon, twelve o'clock, the alarm of fire was made general throughout the community, it being the fine large brick dwelling owned by Mrs. Jos. Regier, on the Goshen Line, South of Zurich. The fire hav- ing started at the roof around the kitchen chimney, just whether it ig- nited from a defective chimney, or from a spark is a mystery, and with the strong south. -west windblowing at the time, little could be done to exterminate the same. The Zurich •fire brigade. was called out but by the time it arrived the roof was at the point bf caving in, and as the supply of water was limited, there was only one thing to do and that. was to keep, it from spreading into other buildings nearby. Fortunately a large number of hand soon gather- ed and practically all of the contents were saved, especially those that we- re conveniently carried out. The house which was built by the late Mr. Regier, was a substantial one, as the brick wall at the base was an 18 inch wall, and practically all of brickwork is still standing. Much 'ympathy is extended to Mrs. Reg- 4ir and family rn the to"ss of their Int! home, as it means so much to" have your home burned. The house arried one thousand dollars insur- rice, and the contents were $400. tVhich is rather a small 'annoutit and consequently the final hiss will be quite large. Committed For Trial J. Campbell McIver, Toronto bond saleswan, was the other day commit- ted for trial by Mag. C. A. Reid of Goderich, on charge of theft and con version. The evidence of the com- plainant Robert J. Gailbraith, of Win - ham, alone was heard. He said that he had given McIver $2,000 with which to buy forty shares of Noran- da. He has not since seen either the stock or the money. Galbraith also said there was $.214 to his credit with.,; McIver, for which the latter had not accounted. The Magistrate said he had heard sufficient to commit the accused for ,trial. The prisoner was defended by Frank Donelly. Crown Attorney. D. E. Holmes prosecuted. The New Conversion. Loan One of the 'features of the new Gov- ernnierjt Conversion Loan that seems likely to appeal strongly to holders of the Dominion Government bonds matuuing in 1931, 1932, 1933 and 1934, is that the new bond offered in exchange not only retains for the hol- der all. the privileges of his own han- ds, but provides for him an invest- ment of the hibhest grade, and one that will have a lifetime of at least fifteen years after his present bonds have matured. That is, none of the valuable privileges that were- acrvbrd- ed during the war years, when the price of nioneyi was mush higher than it is -to -day, is taken away. xt be holds the War Loan Bonds maturing in 1931 which carries 5% interest rate he will. receive asiirrilar rate of in- 'kerest on his new bond up zo the date of the1931 issue. So with the bonds maturing in 1932, 1933 or 1934, all of which carry 5'' that . nteflected money conditions prevailed during the War years. The new bond that is offered to him in exchange for ✓hathe now has will carry not only what may be wiled its "regular' interest rate of 4% %, titin ;wifl pro- vide r the additional interest rte: of half to 1 "Jo. • f- s *** f Smoke Care en ba b 4.4.
