Mr. McKenzie, Accountant of the
Zurich Bank of Montreal, was a Sun-
day visitor at his home at St. Marys.
Hay Council met on Monday for
the April meet and had rather a
lengthy session, as it started in the
forenoon and lasted till nearly mid-
night.

ends to the Zurich Town Hall, on
Friday evening, and enjoy the fun at
the play "The Absent -Minded Bride -1
groom"
•The auction sale of property and
household effects in town on Satur-
day brought out a large amount of
people, and good prices were realized
for the articles offered. Thb property
was however, not sold.
We have just received a good sup-
ply of fresh Farmaldehyde, which we
axe offering the public at a little
lower in price than previous years.

At Zurich Drug Stors.
Owing to the fine and dry weather
we had the past week the roads are
just like summer and the farmers are
busy on the land putting in their
spring seeding. The land workS up
very nicely.
More Pensions Granted
Twenty-three applications were con-
sidered by the county old age pen-
sion board at its meeting recently.
Of these twelve were granted in full
and six in part and five were reserv-
ed for further consideration. Since
the Act came into force 733 applic-
ations have been considered in the
county and 649 granted. There
have been some eighty deaths, bring-
ing he number of those now receiv-
ing pensions crown to about 560.
Total payments for February were
$11,442.91, of which the county paid
$2,288.58.
The Dominion Bureau of Statistics
reports that the carriage and wagon
industries of. Canady turned out $9,-
886,629 worth of products in 1929
as against $8,194,936 worth of pro-
ducts in 1928. But there's a catch

At a recent convention of thresh-
ermen the frequentcy of barn fires,
espeeially at thrashing time, came
up for discussion and the consensus
of opinion was that if smoking about
the barn and threshing machines

greatly lessened. It is surely a
flection on the commonsense of men
that they will deliberately, or eare7
lessly, subject themselves, their nei-
ghbors or patrons to heavy financial

Parents Must Care for Children

ducecl a bill in the legislature. This
providethat every parent shall be
liable for the maintenance arta edu-
cation of his children under 16 years
of age. A. recent decision of the co-
urts held that the criminal code sec-
tion could not be enforced in Ont•

to support 'ander Ontario raw. This
gap was met by the bill and a pen-
alty of imprisonment for not more
than 3 months is provided for any
one failing to care for his children
according to his means.
