In Police Court
When Wilbert Lockwood, Clinton
taxi-driver, refused to tell Magistrat
Reid who were his companions, o
rather whom he had driven, on a tra
pping expedition to • Stanley Town
ship, the Magistrate promptly fine
him %.25 and costs of two months im
prisonment. Lackingthe money,
went to jail and at Isat accounts wa
still there, nor had he given the cour
the desired information. Lockwood
was charged under the Game and
Fisheries Act with "molesting the den
of forbearing animals" The inform-
ation was laid by John Pease, county
constable, of Hayfield. Albert Leitch
the informant, told of coining across
Lockwood and other men whom he
did not know, on his trap lines. His
traps were repeatedly molested and
sprung and he felt that a mink which
he had caught disappeared in a my-
sterous manner. One day he came
across some men digging out a skunk
which was finally shot. Lockwood had
been a witness to the digging.
SPORT NEWS
Rangers vs Maroons—Jan. 20, the
Maroons defeated the Rangers in the
first game of the twin bill by the sc-
ore 5-4. The teams were in good
shape and put up a rugged type of
hockey but the snow flurries slowed
things up and made puck carrying
and combination difficult. The Mar-
oons had all the best for the first hf.
of the game, but after that were
kept busy keeping the Rangers away
from their nets. With one goal down
and five minutes to gothe Rangers
sent four men up and hemmed the
Maroons in their own end of the
rink. Long shost down to the end of
the rink was the only way the Mar-
oons could relieve the pressure. The
game ended with the teams in a wild
scrimmage in front of Maroon nets.
Referee: (George) Uttley.
Goshen vs Zurich—What a game,
what a game. If you missed this one,
you are out one of the best laughs
of all time. Was it rough, fast and
plenty dirty? It was fans and how?
When these teams tangle in ice bat-
tle they go at it tooth and nail and
never let up till the last bell. Before
the game started they began protest-
ing the use of certain players and
there after everything was a matter
of lengthy debate. There was Tittle to
choose between these two fighting
sixtettes as they battled to a ten min-.
ute overtime tie 1-1. There were no
casualties but on several occasions
the blood flowed freely, for which
penalties were awarded and these
came thick and fast. Klopp and N.
Bedard proved to be the bad men for
Zurich while C. Meyers upheld that
doubtful honor for the Goshen. Char-
lie played a great game checking
riercly from bell to bell, Referee:,
Atousseau. •
Rangers vs Canadiens—Jai, 2,the

Cartarliens, it was a lucky win as 3

win move up to first place. Referee:
M. Oesch.
Rensall vs Goshen—Jan. 22, The
Hensall Rinky Dinks won the second
game in a double header by the score
of 9-6 from the Goshen Bulldogs.
The Goshen were' minus their good
little goalie Manson, who was laid up
with a bad cod. The rest= may have
been reversed; if he would have been
on the linen?, as Hensell scored a
flock of goals froni near centre ice,
which looked,like easy stops. Hensall
is now leading league and it looks
as if they Were a cinch for the play-
offs. Referee --,--H. Walker.
Jan. 24 Senators vs Canadiens, the
Canadiens wound up their part of the
schedule by losing to the Senators
2-1. This Seems to be a bad week
for some goalies as the Canadiens
net minder I'd two soft ones by wh-
ich should have been easy for any-
one. However the Senators goal was
guarded in marvelous style by M.
Oesch stopping 60 shots by actual
count and a.Oumber were fired from
close range:,. Never before in the
history of hockey in Zurich has such
a sparklind;ahibition of goal tend-
ing been seen. Fans,. you sure mis-
sed a classie. Referee: B. Uttley.
Jan. 22.Zurich vs Bronson, the
Flying Dutchinen of Zurich and Wild-
cats of the Bronson battled to a 5 all
tie in the second. game. Each team
scored once:in the overtime in what
proved to be the most hectic session
of the game as a win means much to
each- as both have a chance to get
into the playoff. The game was not
as rough as the last encounter of the-
se rivals, hitt plenty of rugged body
checking was indulged in with hon-
ors about even. Referee: H. Walker
