Nan -ms on Mail Boxes
While many farmers' now have
their names plainly painted on their
nail boxes or on front gate signs,
dentification signs are still conspic-
leas by their absence on the major-
ty of farms in this district. In some
?arts of the province name signs are
the general rule. 'They .serve a use-
ful purpose and also give the pass-
ing visitor a good impression.

A large creamery truck of Goder-

to the ditch and the whole cargo, of
raptly empty ice cream tubs and cans
were scattered across the fence. But
after gathering it all up again, no
great damage was done.
A very unusual auto accident hap-
pened Iast Friday afternoon on the
Zurich Road near St. Joseph,about
a half a mile east, when two men
yore driving in a Michigan touring
car, and nearing- the ravineandcul-
vert, they drove into a swarm of
bees, which gave them an interesting
time for a while. The driver of the
car lost control and was all over the
road until .he hit the side of the cul-
vert and tore off a wheel as well as
other injuries to the car; this impact,
we think seared the bees away, as the
occupants of the tar were unmolest-
ed when. found by other motorists.

Mr. and Mrs. Morgan Brown and
little son of Toronto, were holiday
visitors with her sister,. Mr. and Mrs.
Melvin Brown, Goshen Line. Mr.
Brown returning to Toronto on Tues
day, and being accompanied by Miss
Grace Meyers, while Mrs. Brown and
daughter are visiting friends here
for a week.
A minor incident, which might
have proven fatal occurred during
the electric storm on Sunday evening
on the farm of Mr. Wm. Dietrich, of
the Goshen Line, north of town,
when there was a very voilent crash
of thunder, very close to Mr. Diet-
rich's barn, but the barn was not
touched in any way, but a short dis-
tance west of the barn the bolt of
lightning struck into a barley stook,
with the result that practically all
the grain as yc-ell as the straw was
scorched or rather roasted from the
tremendous current that the bolt car-
ried with it. Little rain fell during
this storm.
Don't forget, that next week there
will be no Zurich Herald published,
as the local staff are going to the
Bruce Peninsula 'for a ten day's
camping trip. The tent, and inexpen-
sive outfit has made this trip possible
as it would be out of the question for
the Herald's publisher to stop at
expensive or moderate hotels to sp-
end these holidays, but with the tent
"all set" near the be entiful water's
Age, and with so much nature and
.resh air thrown in, one requires
very little else to keep going. Of
course an occasional "slapped to-
gether" bite to eat, makes a big
change, and gives one plenty of tine
for thought 8nd relaxation of the
nerve. But we hope the fishing is
good, that is ln the nets, so we can
buy an occasional one, to satisfy the
dinner basket. Here's hoping- for a
real outing, but don't forget, that no
Harald will appear on August 14th.
Carried on Business in Same Stand
for Forty -One Years.
(Stratford Beacon -Herald)
With so many changes in the com-
plexion of Stratford's business area
it is interesting to note that there is
one merchant in Stratford who "has
done business in the same stand" for
41 years. That merchant is J. 13.
Badour, .more popularly known as
"Johnny" who carries on a boot and
shoe business 4 the corner of Downie
and Shakespeare streets. Mr. Badour,
in the strict sense of the word, is nut
in the business area proper but he
has nevertheless played his part in n14
the business life of the conununity.
He come of pioneer French stock and
was.born in Drysdale, Huron County
62 years ago, a descendant or Isaac
Badour who was born in the parish
of St. Sulpicr, Paris, France, in
1616 and who came to this country
in 1645, or 285 years ago. The
Badour family played no little part
in the establishment of the French
Settlement on the shores of Lake
Huron. Abraham Badour, grandfath-
er of Mr. Badour was one of the
coureurs de bois, who blazed a trail
through the then virgin forests of
Huron County and'it was largely on
the t`. trength of the word brought
5ack- by Abraham Badour and his as-
sociates that led to the establishment
af a French Colony in Huron Coun-
ty, In the war Oj 1812 Mr. Badour
grandfather fought with the British
under General Brock. Abraham. Ba -
dour now lies buried three miles
North of the town of Clinton. J. B.
Badour came to Stratford to take up
residence 43 years ago and two years
later entered into business for him -
