A New York man having been sent
to jail for speeding, his wife begs the
privilege of going to jail with him.
She probably is filled with remorse
for having chided him with being the
slowest driver on the road.
A farmer near Stratford got a
gipsy fortune-teller to bless his roll
of money and later he found the roll
was short by $250. It was a case of
"less" not "bless" so far as the roll
was concerned.
They were lost in a,sriow storiii.
"Oh look George, there's a chicken,
so we must be near a farm." "That's
not a chicken. That's the weather-
cock on the parish church."
It is said that of 200 applications
for divorce from Ontario, 128 are
from the city of Toronto, and not
one from Huron, Bruce of Perth co-
unty. There is room for a sermon in
this statement—but it isn't necessary
A bill to provide for the construct-
ion of a bridge across the St. Clair
River between Port Huron and Sar-
nia has been introduced and passed in
Congress. A bridge at this poin
would bring a great deal of traffic to
the Blue Water Highway and would
make a' most convenient route from
Detroit to Huron County.
Mail contractors on rural routes
and those carrying mail from post
offices to railway stations are fight•
ing hard for increased remuneration,
according to Garfield McKinnon, sec-
retary of their association. They are
asking Ottawa authorities for $70
per mile per year on a permanent
salary basis, he said Great distress
among the contractors has resulted
from the present rate of payment,Mr
McKinnon said.
As to whether the world is getting
better or going from bad to worse
affords a theme of endless dispute
between persons of different types.
Each side is able to produce argum-
ents satisfactorily to itself, but not
convincing to the other. One frequ-
ently hears it said that never were
crimes so frequent as now—never
•was,;there so much fraud, dishonesty
and crime in the world. But to that
ante hears the reply that such is not
the case, but that everyone to -day is
'better informed as'to what is actua]-
ly'occurring in the world. Will Dur-
ant in the course of a striking article
in the Golden Book Magazine recent-
ly touched on.. this point. He was
ssrying that people are kinder, gentler
)tee generous than ever before.
