Mr. Norman Fleischauer, who is an employeee at Kalbfleisch's planing mills, had the misfortune on Thurs- day last to get his in contact with a sharp cutting knife and had his thumb badly cut, but the bone was not injured to any extent. The fine rains the past week and the beginning of this week, have in- deed put things agrowing, and now after the rather cool week -end, the weather is warming up nicely, surely we have the promise of an abundant harvest. Sorry to report that Rev. W. Y. Dreier, has not been .enjoying hir usual health, and on this account was able to hold only one service on Sunday morning, as there was no ser- vice in the evening. The Sunday School Teachers of the Stratford District of the Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Canada, will hold their annual convention in the local church Zurich, on Empire Day, May 24th. The sessions will begin at 10 a. m. and 2 p. m. and are open to the public. Miss Greta Schilbe was pleasantly surprised on Saturday evening by a number of her friends and relatives who gathered at the home of Mr: and Mrs. C. C. Schilbe, where she was spending the week -end, making het the recipient of many beautiful gifts. A social evening was spent which was brought to a close by serving refresh- ments. Saturday of this week will be ob- served throughout Canada as a whole as Victoria Day and a public holiday. Some of the larger cities we not,c are observing it on Saturday, while others are taking Monday off for this annual day. It seems rather regret• able that a better uniformity could not be reached among the various towns and cities. Some of the larger cities claim. that owing to the tourist trade, they cannot afford to close their places of business on. Saturday. When that new thirteen month calen- dar is once introduced and put to' actual use, it will eliminate all this discord at present, as the holidays will practically all then appear on Monday, which seemingly is the most suitable day of the week for alt. The business men of town have a- gain fell in line with the half holiday every Wednesday afternoon of each week, for a period of the summer months. This has become quite pop- ular for some years, and seems hard to get away from, as this midweek "day of rest" seems to be a stimiles that local business men do not like to be without. As for the weekly news- paper man, it is not quite so agree- able, as in most cases Wednesday is the big day of the week, when the weekly issue is published. And we must again observe our former rule, :f first getting out the paper and then what is left of QV & use holiday. •Wi triist that the farmers of the community will not get fooled by cch1tng to town on Wednesday • ftei noon, beginning with June 4th, entil the end of September, and with the intentions of doing shopping, .fol• he places of business will be closed re these atternotnst please bear this S Howl Shop in mind. The Wise Old, Owl Says: It is more difficult to leave unsaid thewrong thing at a tempting mom- ent, than to say the right thing at the right time. Religion is the only thing you can take along beyond earth's bounds. Don't wait until the doctor despairs of your life befor.: you decide to walk the Jesus way The church will help you. That's the coldest church I ever saw said. one who came late and sat on the back pew and rushed before anyone could greet him. Take my advise and invest your life so that you won't he morally bankrupt when you die. ,Ile ashamed to die until you have won some victory for yourself, fellowmen and God. The man who can, but won't :must give way to the one who can't but tries and wins out. A great many people fail because they're so dead sure they will fail that it would be cruel to dissapoint them.
