American Bankers' Magazine says:
"No business man in any place should
allow a newspaper published in his
town to go without his name and
business being mentioned somewhere.
This applies to all. kinds of business
and professional men".
1VIr. N. E. Siemon, the new M. -H.
agent ;who started in business here
about March 15th, has had a wonder-
ful season of business, as to date ne:
has sold no less than 44 machine::
which is far beyond all -expectations.
The fine rains which passed over
this part on Tuesday, were indeed
very welcome, and were needed as
the ground was getting somewhat dry

M. Roy ?gamont, of the Go:il'en
Line Stanley, while one day recently
going gown the side road noticed
sornething unusual on a twig of a
tree, and upon investigation Mr. La-
mont discovered a note attached to
the remains of a sinal] baloon, stat-
ing the date and place of the hither
go of the balooe, the place being hi
Flint, Mich., and it sure had a base
title across lake Huron and part of
the State of Michigan. The panics;
who sent out three haloons were eon
scouts of that city, and they sent out
three of these haloons, and the one
that Mr. Lamont found was the only
one of the three that they have recei-
ved word from.

The many friends of the conunun-
ity regret very touch, to learn of tee
passing of .Mrs. Win. Cathcart, (nee
Sarah Manson), of Peterboro, and
sister to Mr. Peter Manson, of ''the
Goshen Line, Stanley. The death
taking place very suddenly on May
3rd, and the sudden news here was e
great shock to the many friends and
relatives of this section.
A number of workmen have been
busy th past reek in digging up this
main drains through town on the
Zurich Road, especially those leading
in the easterly direction. We noticed
that a great mauy of these tiles were•
broken down, and others were pract-
ically filled with mud and dirt. This
clean;ng out should again afford pro-
per drainage for a number of years.'
Mr. Daniel Smith, who has•. made
his home at Aunelree for the past
two years, has returned to Zurich to
reside.
Mr. Preist, of Brussels, the distric
mechanic for the Ruston Oil engine
was in the village a few days thi
week and carefully went over th
large engine at the mill, and gave
a thorough overhauling and cleanin
up. This engine has now been i
the mill for three years, and ha
given wonderful service, and very
economical power, and with good at
tention should give years of service
with little or no trouble.
Some of our interested business
men :have been somewhat anxious
concerning the half holiday being a•
gain observed for the summer mon-
ths, while others have not been quite
so alert about the matter. Whether
the business men of town will again
observe this or not this summer, we
think a little get-together meeting
now and again would be perfectly in
order, when these vital matters co-
uld` be properly discussed and a de-
cision formed thereon. Anyway, if
the half holiday is to be observed
this year, the time to decide should
be now.
The May meeting of the Zurich
Branch of the Wornen's institute was
held in the Council Chamber on Mon-
day evening, May 5th with the Presi-
dent, Mrs. E. F. Klopp in the chair.
Gratifying reports were presented by
the various conveners. The' President

ing "institute Aid". which the ladies

A Phenomenal Smile
A colored person who used the
above word very frequently in his
sermon was told he must eyolh in it
or resign; so after considerable hesi-
tation and deep thought ne proceed-
ed as follows: Now bredren, me welk-
in down de road, seen Rastur Lane
sitting on de fence smoking, an no
phenomena. An going a little farder
an seein a cow eatin grass an no
phenomena. On going still farder
an seein a bird sittin on de fence
singing am no phenomenal. But you
go farder still and see Charlie booth's
cow sitting on de fence smokin Ras
tus Lane's pipe and singing like
yeller canary--dat would be a pheno-
mena.
Dinah, did you wash that fish be-
fore bakin it? Laws Moam! Dat'e
no use washing fish what's lived in de
water all his life. Moralizing along
this line leads us to conclude that
religiously some mortals are truly
clean, some are only dry-cleaned,
some are clean in spots and others
are just plain dirty. The word de-
clares: "Though your sin be as scar-
let, it shall be as white as snow,
