Lake Levels Higher Than Year Ago A. despatch from Ottawa says: With the exception of Lake Superior which showed a slight recession, March water levels of the great lakes ,.nd St. Lawrence River were highel than during the preceding month. A report issued by the Canadian Hydro graphic: Service, Department of Mar- ine says: Lake Huron at Goderich, averaged 2% inches higher than in February; 1'4 inches higher than in ivlarch 1929, and 2 inches higher than the average level of March fo3 70 n ! years. The effect of spring su of has started to raise lake Huron and the level will continue gaining until midsummer when it should be slightly lower than in 1929. What might have proven even greater accident took place on id' square in front of the Domin fe House early on Sunday morning; when Mr. and Mrs. Held and family of Dashwood were corning into town. on the Goshen Line, and Mr. Regie; was coming in from the east on the.' Zurich road, and the two cars coliid• ed with the result that Mr. Hell's, Ford touring got the worst of the' i mixup, as the one front wheel is a complete wreck as well as mand parts bent and broken, the top being com- pletely demolished. Mr. Held was ac- companied by Mrs. Held and their three daughters who were all consid- erably shaken up in the fray, while Mrs. Held received two bad scalp wounds which required a goodly num ber of stitches • to close the same. Luckily there were no bones fract- ured, and the car damages will soon be repaired again. This once more should be a warning for people to reduce speed at 'these road intersec- tions, especialy where the vision is obscured, and every driver at the wheel should bear in mind that the people's lives who are with him are practically in his hands. Death of James Fowlie. The death took place on Saturday, April ..12th of one of the older resi- dents of Bayfield, in the person of James William Fowlie, whose wife predeceased him a month ago, Friday March 14th. Mi. Fowlie was well known by all residents of Bayfield and many in the surrounding country as he carried on a successful black- smithing business from early youth till some eight or nine years ago. when he retired from active service He was seventy years old, a son of Mr. and -MTS. Wm Fowlie. He learn- ed the biaeksmithing trade with the late George Erwin. Mr. Fowlie was born in Tuckersmith in August, 1859 and, came to Bayfield with his parents when a child. • He is survived by two brothers, Andrew of Goderich, and Herbert, of Galt, one sister, Mrs. S Switzer, near Clinton; a half brother and half sister, John and Mary Day, of Bayfield; two sons, Lawrence and Fred Fowlie of London; four daugh- ters, Ina, Mrs. John Warsell, of Had ette, Sask., and Misses Frances and Ethel at home, and Dorothy, Mrs. Gideon Koehler of Zurich. The fun- eral was held on Tuesday afternoon, April 15th, from his late home to Bayfield cemetery, the services being conducted by Rev. F. H. Paull. The sympathy of a large circle of friends goes out to the bereved ones. The Oshawa Times says that it is claimed that the average train pas- ses over a railway crossing in seven seconds and that it would be inter- esting for motorists to stop and find out if this is correet, rather than to .:ry aid savethe seven Seconds. ; Gogd Friday passed olT rather ,luiet in the village, as there waa of no special attraction. Considerable Villagers were visited by friends while. some were away visiting. A number of the boys were along the creeks trying to catch some fish. SCHOOL REPORT 0 i 13 S. S. Wayside Brousings The successful man lives a busy and vigorous life. He steams on, up - strewn and passes the raft floating downstream. The bible is not criti- cized because it is wrong, but because it is right. This also applies to Holy Spirit inspired truth preached in the pulpits of the' church. The true ser- vant of Christ is not afraid to live tie truth, nor is he afraid to preach itand' his .pdrishoners will please God best as they welcome .it. The church has a spring that quenches the thirst of the soul; go regularly and drink unto eternal life. The church is the house of God. The triumphal arch- way on the road to heaven, walk on this royal highway, all other paths lead amuck. Moral and spiritual cleanliness that pleases God, is the heritage of the christian.
