Hay Council meets on Monday,
April 7th for the monthly meeting.
Mr. E. Oesch wishes to advise that
he will issue Radio License. All lic-
enses will expire on March. Have

Mrs. F. Kading has sold the 50 -
acre farm being the east half of lot
20, concession 17, Stephen, to Mr.
All 'rt Morenz, who takes possession
on June lst.
In addition too those present at the
funeral of Mrs. G. Hess is: Mr. and
Mrs. Charles Roesler and Mr. John
Roesler of Crediton.
Miss Hazel Uttley entertained a
number of her girl friends at her
birthday party on Tuesday evening,
April lst. A good time was spent by
all present.
The maple syrup season has so far
been very profitable and very good
quality of syrup has been marketed.
This is undoubtedly due to the large
amount of cold weather we have had
in. spells.
The patrol men who are not on the
road these days with their little gra-
ders are missing their chance of hav-
ing good roads for half the summer.
Those who are not are forcing the
municipality to spend thousands of
dollars in road building later on.
The annual election of officers of
the Evangelical League was held on
Friday evening. The Pastor, Rev.
W. Y. Dreier presided. The election
resulted as follows: President, Miss
Ida Routledge; Vice -Pres., Garfield
Witmer; Recording Secretary, Mild-
red Geiger; Corresponding Secretary
Lylyan Martin; Treasurer, Edwin
Gazebo.

than our own little Zurich. Should
we not feel proud of these boys*
The foot or so of snow which met
our eyes on Monday last, has stood
the wind and weather well the past
week, and farmers were hauling
saw logs, and doing some real heavy
teaming, but on Sunday the sun came
out nicely, and since every day con-

ers who are asking for a higher duty
on beans that they are imperilling the
position of the general body of farm
ers in relation to tariff protection.
Farmers as a class suffer from the
application>of the protective principle
in Canadian tariffmaking, and to
ask for tariff protection for them-
selves is to bolster up a system to
which organized agriculture is deter-
minedly opposed. "Nothing" says the!
Sun, "will please the protected inter-
ests in Canada more than persistence
by farmers in these ill-advised de-
mands.

Mr. Frank McClinchey who has
been taking a course atO.A.C.,Guelph
has returned to his home in Stanley.
Mr. Edges Smith, son of Mr. Herb.
W. Smith, has returned to his home
after spending some months with his
aunt, Mrs. Hinds, near Chatham.
Mrs. Alice Armstrong, who has sp-
ent the winter months with friends
in Ontario, leaves this week for her
home at Pilot Mound, Man.
The people of this tommunity re-
ceived a great shock when they heard
of the sudden death of Mrs. Henry
McClinchey on Thursday of last we-
ek. She had been in her usual
health and attending to the duties of
the home, her husband hadbeen a-
way for a short, time and on return-
ing home about noon, found that she
had passed away. She was 32 years,
of age and was a daughter of Mr.
Mcllwain of Goderich Township, and'
about twelve years ago was married'
i'aniily of four girls remain, Much
sympathy is .felt for the* ut their
sudden bereavement.
