Two of Zurich's popular sports-
men were trying out the speed of
their fast trotters the other day on
the village streets, but the sharp eye
of the law was also resting upon
them and the result was an appear-
ance before the Police Magistrate
Reid of Goderich, who held court at
Hensel! on Friday, the boys were
assessed a little over ,$15.00 each and
with the usual preliminary warnings,
were allowed to go. We hope the
local race track will soon be in a
zondition se that these events can
be held legally.
The Concert put on in the Town
Hall, last Friday evening by tie Luth-
er League of SL Peter's church was
in every way a decided. The pro
gram .featuring the play "Uncle's
Niece" was a continuous volume of
laughter from start to finish, and is
indeed a credit to the young people
who took part as well as the train-
ers. We cannot help but make re -
:narks about the "Niece" once a
nephew and then the neice, Leonard
sure deserves credit for the many
lightning changes he made during
the , most excitable periods of the
drama. 'The best word we can think
of is "congratulations". This play is
at anytime worthy of repeating.
Hensall Seed Show
A large crowd attended the annual
seed show of the South Huron Agric-
ultural Society, at Hensel' on Tues-
day of last week, and a fine lot of
splendid grain was shown and several
good addresses were given. L. D.
Hankinson of Toronto was the judge
of the seeds and also gave an ad-
dress. Dr. Stephenson of Toronto,
was present and gave a splendid ad-
dress on diseases of horses, cattle,
sheep hogs, and fowl. He gave a great
deal of information which was ap-
preeiated by his hearers. The Hen -
sail Seed Show is doing a lot of good
in the district and should be attend-
ed by every farmer. The following

Profitable Lent.
The word "lent" is derived from a
word meaning the lengthening of
Springtime. In the Songs of Sol-
omon we read "For the Winter is
past, the rain is over and gone, the
flowers appear on the earth; the
time of the singing of birds is :some.
Lent tells us that the sun is rising
higher in the heavens and calls us to
• arise in the strength of the Lord and
answer the call of christian duty that
shines forth in beautiful living. Lent
is a special season for the soul's
growth. Ie behooves us to avail our-
selves of every opportunity to attend
a higher standard of spiritual life.
Some observe Lent too superficially
and thoughtlessly; for a time they
give up chewing gum, sweet meats,
luxuries, frolics and the like as tho-
ugh religion consisted in these. Some
observe "Lent" sorrowfully because
of what they feet they must now
emit, very reluctantly but they hope
to make up for it later; well what is
sinful during "Lent" is sinful any-
time. Let us not cheapen "Lent", or
any other Seasoh, for all life has
sizeable proportions and earnest re-
sponsibility for every day. Let this
lenten season be another occasion for
delving deeply into our standing be-
fore God. Then only is it profitable.
