An interesting announcement from
Ottawa is that of the appointment of
Mrs. Norman Wilson of Ottawa as
the first woman member of the Sen-
ate of Canada. Mrs. Wilson is a
daughter of the late Senator Robert
MacKay of Montreal and her hus-
band was formerly a member of the
House of Commons, representing the
county of Russell. She herself has'
taken an active part in political work
especially in connection with the or-
ganization of Libefal women.
The sale of the horses -owned byI
George Clarkson, held• at the Dom- •
inion Hotel stables on Saturday last
was largely attended and good prices
realized considering the quality of
some of the articles. Mr. Clarkson,
who was taken to the County Home
at Clinton, some weeks ago, has taken
to the tall timbers and flighted from
the Home. The officials are on the
look -out for the escaped man, as het
is 'physically in a. condition that re -1
quires attention, and the public sho-
uld co-operate with the authorities to•
have him sent back where he will be
cared ;for. •
Late Mrs. Jane Surerus
Mrs. Jane Surerus (nee Geiger)
was born at Zurich, February 9th
1860 and departed this life at Cav-
alier, North Dakota, February 3,
1930, aged 69 years, 11 months and
24 days. At the ;age of fourteen un-
der the ministry of Rev. Brolun she
accepted her Lord and united with
the Evangelical church' of which she
remained a faithful member until her
death. She was united in marriage
to Menno Surerus in 1880 at Zurich
Ont., and here they settled until 1885
when they went to North Dakota and
settled at Cavalier. To this union
were born seven children, five dais
ghters and two sons, six of whom
survive their mother; one, Maggie,
having died in infancy. The daugh-
ters living are: Mrs. Simpson Geig-
er, Mrs. Ed. Cooke and Mrs. Ann Nor
ton of Cavalier, and Mrs. John True-
mner of Eston, Sask.; the sons: Har-
old Surerus of Eston, Sask., and Wel-
lington Surerus of Tucom$, Wash.
Her husband predeceased her in death
some fifteen years ago. Besides .the
immediate family she leaves to mourn
four sisters, Mrs. A. Arolper, Mrs.
Martha Restemeyer, Mrs. Win. Sur-
erus and Mrs. Geo. Arolper; seven-
teen grandchildren and two great
grandchildren and a host of other re-
latives and friends. Mrs Surerus
has been a patient sufferer ' for a
number of years, but through it all
she has been always hopeful with her
faith fifmly fixed on the Lord. The
funeral was held from the Evangel-
ical Church of which she was a mean
ber being conducted by her pastor,
Rev. Breuar who uted for a basis of
his discourse text selected by Mrs.
Surerus for the occasion: Prov. 14-
.32, "The righteous lath hope in his
death." The remains were laid to
rest in the Cavalier Cemetery.

IN MEMORIAM
In loving memory of our dear
mother, Mrs. Jacob Ort, who died
one year ago, February 25th, 1929.
A silent thought, a secret tear,
In our memory she is dear;
As we loved her, so we miss ker,
God . took her home as it was His
wilt,
But in our hearts she liveth still
Sadly missed by the Children.
