Water For Hens
Art egg contains a large amount
of water and the hen's body is
likewise 'composed for a great part
of water. The should drink approxi-
mately twice as much water by wei-
ght, as she eats food. One hundred
hens that are laying should consume
about four gallons of water per day.
In view of these facts it is apparent
that the water supply is particularly
important, more so during the winter
months. Failure to supply water pro
perly hinders digestion and will cause
constipation with the resultant cur-
tailment of egg production.
Protect Fruit Trees
Two methods are adopted at the
Central Experimental Farm to pro-
tect fruit trees from injury through
being girded by mice and rabbits.
The first is to wrap building paper
and the other is to encircle the trunks
with wire protector with small eno-
ugh mesh to prevent a mouse frim
going through it. In either case the
paper or protector must be put close
to the ground, or better still, set in
a shovelful of cinders. These forms
of protection should be put on in the
fall, particularly on trees up to six
inches in diameter.
