Miss Gertrude Schilbe attended a large banquet at the London Hotel of that city. • Mrs. H. Elsie of Dashwood, is sp- ending the week with Mr. and Mrs. E Desch. Finlayson, 44* Toronto, were visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. Oesch the past week. Mr. and Mrs. Finlayson were former residents of' Zurich, during the time that Mr. Finlayson was •the Public school teacher of the Blake school. He is now following- his pro- fession in the city of Toronto, and likes it very much in this large and industrious city. The passing of the old year and the ushering in of the new ,was very fittingly observed on Tuesday even- ing,: The local church bells were ring jinn and some held appropriate ser- vi4,•• 'We•,•alsb noticed the usual ANNUAL amount of 'Shots fired, which is a rath er old Custom, but yet it becomes al - ways new again on this occasion. The Zurich Branch of the Wom- en's Institute wilk, hold their monthly meeting in the Council Chamber on Monday evening, Jan. 6th, at 8 o'clock. The committee in charge are Mrs. A. J. MacKinnon, Mrs. J. E. Gascho, Mrs, T. McAdams and Mrs. E. Heideman. This meeting will be in order of a sewing circle. The Committee ar asking every member of the Institute and visiting women of the community to come and bring some needle work with them and each demonstrate on their own work. The roll call will be answered with New Year rbsolutions. This being the first meeting of the New Year, let every Institute warker be present and bring others with you. This will great ly count on your New Year Resolut- ion. Late Benjamin Surerua Benjamin Surerus, son of Daniel and Margaret (Kaercher) Surerus was born Feb. 26, 1846 in Blenheim Tp., Oxford County and peacefully departed this this life on Dec. 27, 1929, at his home on the 14th Con., Hay Township. For a number of years. the departed was not in very good health because of faulty heart action, but nearly two years ago he was afflicted with a stroke of paralys- is, from which he never fully recov- ered. On June 1976 he was united in marriage to Leah Schluchter; three sons and five daughters were given to this union. One daughter, Ella, Mrs. Samuel Schoch predeceased her father three years ago. 'When first married they resided for six years on the Bronson on the farm now owned by Mr. Mose Erb, after which they moved to the 14th con., where they resided happily together for 46 years He was a devout member of theEv- angelical church for many 'years, and during this time held almost all of the responsible offices of the church. The departed was a man of great principal and always cherished that which is right.. His survivors are: hisofs Cavalier,c'inPone brother William N. Dak., one sister, ,Mrs. anion: O HoltzmanWilliam of Hodgeville. Sask, three sons, Oliver and Albert of 144 Township, Wesley .of Detroit, Mich;. four daughters, Mrs.. George Kalbfleisch and Mrs. Edmund Kalb- fleiSch of Detroit, and Mrs. Wm. Kaer cher and Miss Adelaide .- at home. Twelve grandchildren and one great grandchild and many other near rel- atives and friends.
