Mr. and Mrs. Fred Corbett, of Hay
announce the engagement of their
eldest daughter, Bertha Margaret, to
Mr. William Roy. McLaren, only son
of • Mr. W. L. McLaren, Hensall, the
marriage to take place the latter
part of the month.
L. W. Appel, for the past 15 years
editor and publisher of the Tavist_
ock Gazette, has disposed of the news
paper to George K. Brown, until re-
cently publisher of the Teeswater
News, who assumes possession Nov-
ember 15th. Mr. Appel has not yet
made definite plans for the future.
James A. Carlin Passes
On Friday, November 8th, the
death occurred at his home on High
street, Seaforth, of Mr. James A.
Carlin, after two week's illness with
pleuro pneumonia. Mr. Carlin was
well known in Zurich and commun-
ity, and exceedingly popular, and
his illness of two weeks duration fol-
lowed by his passing while still a
young man, was a shock to the whole
community. He is survived by • one
brother, Frank Carlin, of Detroit,
and two sisters, Mrs. H. C. Schwartz -
Tender of Calgary!, Alta., and Miss
Dolly Carlin at home. Was born in
Mitchell in 1885, a son of the late
Francis D. Carlin, he also lived in
Staffer and Hensall for a number of
years before moving to Seaforth.

door life appear in the December
