,July lst, was indeed a very quiet
day in the village, as practically every
body was away to the balmy lakeside
where large crowds gathered. On
Thursday of this week is the big
holday in the States, when they will
celebrate their National holiday, on
July 4th, and we expect to see large
numbers of Americans over :.ere in
Ontario.
During the heavy storm at Grand
Bend on Monday evening, a large tree
near -the manse was blown across the
road, and stopped traffic for about an
hour till saws and axes were got into
action and cutthe tree up. There
were about 100 cars waiting to get a-
cross. The tree took with it all the
telephone wires, including ,the main
trunk line into the Bend. This • has
however been all repaired again by
Mr. M. 'Mcisaac, the efficient manager
of the eyshem, for that district.

With this issue of the Herald, we
are entering upon the thirtieth year
of the existance of the Zurich Herald,
and we are happy to state that we are
still going strong, and have No
great repuests or appeals to make as
to our existence. We are safe in say-
ing that there are few towns the size
of Zurich, who are supporting a we-
ekly paper the size of the Herald to
the extent of its patronage, and we
cannot help but expressing our appre-
ciation' for this considerate support,
and promise to endeavour to serve
our patrons with the very best of
our ability.
What might have proven a more
serious accident, occured last Wednes
day evening to -Mr. Earl Gingerich,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Sol. Gingerich
of the Goshen Line, South, - when
while sitting on the cultivator, and
driving the horses in the lane of Mr.
Wm.. Koehler's farm, suddenly he
heardia rifle crack and at the same
time a bullet from a 22 cal. entered
his hand and followed the index fin-
ger about half way down, Earl was
atoned taken to Dr. A. J. Mackinnon
where the wound was treated. Parties
carrying guns should not be so care
less and shoot in any old direetion,as
it is sometimes hard to just say where
tI"iese bullets will land. The party
whodischargedthe gun has as yet
not been located.
