On Friday of this week is the an-
nual holiday known as Victoria Day,
and all places of business will be
closed. There are a number of sur-
rounding towns that are holding cel-
ebrations, and a person can easily
find a place to spend the day.
A collesion between two cars at the
intersection of Frederick Street and
the Zurich Road occurred the other
evening when the car owned by Mr.
Casper Walper of town, and driven
by his son Garnet, was being damag-
ed.
Seeding operations are again in
full swing this week hg those farmers
who have not as yet completed these
operations. The weather is nice and
clear, and the land is drying off woad

A monster Liberal Picnic is being
staged for some time in June, when
a goodly number of prominent speak-

the Counties interested are; Huron,
Perth, Lambton and Middlesex.
Mr, Chas. Fritz has purchased the
small kitchen attached to the west
side of the Commercial IIotel prop -

Eciighoffer, Mr. Fritz will move the
building down to his celery garden,-
just
arden,-just east of the village and will use
it for a tool shed and to store his
equipment.
On Saturday evening the streets of
the village received their first treat-
ment of water from the sprinkler, and
it kept the dust nicely settled for the
evening, but a good coat of oil or
other chemicals is more substantial
to keep the dust from flying around
in the dry summer days. We trust
that the big oil tank will soon make
its appearance and do a siuniner's
job.
Miss V. V. Siebert, our local mill-
ener, is obliged to vacate the place
of business where she now occupies,
by the middlle of June, and as there
is no other suitable place available at
present, she has decided to sacrifice
to the public her entire stock of
hats, etc. The sale commences on
Thursday of this week till everything
is sold. People will do well to pick
up these snaps.

Evangelical Church Notes
ZURICH — ONT.
HONESTY?
Honesty is a potent factor in ind-
ividual and community life. There
isn't enough of it. Diogenes, the wise
Greek went out at noon day to search
for an honest man. IIe would need
to take an electric search light today.
Honesty is a mark of distinction. Dis-
honesty is a common sin. Honesty
is not a policy but a principle. If we
are honest, simply as a matter of pol-
icy, our honesty is shamefully dishon-
est. Unless honesty is a principal it
is nothing. Be honest with yourself
Do not 'kid" and trick yourself into
all sorts of positions that are false in
creed and conduct, of which you
know that 'they are not true. Hon-
esty like charity begins at home. Un-
til we are honest with ourselves we
cannot be honest with others. There
is so-called honesty among thieves
so far as their gang is concerned. Let
us discriminate clearly 'between what
is thine and mine and God's. Woe
unto you who make clean the out-
side of the cup, said Jesus. Cleanse
first that which is within the cup. We
build a safe and enduring life and civ-
ilization when we build on the found-
ation of intellectual and spiritual
